Fire Extinguisher For Track Days - R33 - 2 Bolts Or 1?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

At my last track day, which was a while ago :( , the scrutineer nearly did not pass me because I did not have bolts holding my fire extinguisher.

At this stage I've re-used the rear seat mount, and the fire extinguisher has a single bolt through it. Although they said something about having a bolt & nut...(I have a bolt with an allen key head, I cannot recall its name).

Anyway, do I need 2 bolts? And where do other people mount there fire extinguishers?

If I did drill a hole for the other bolt I'm not sure how I would get a nut on the other end of it.

Or if there's a way to make the thread that the bolt can go into.

Thanks,

Gareth

mine is through the tranny tunnel on the passenger side with 2

Oh ok so you drilled a couple of holes in there and bolted it in...pics would be great :)

use the existing seat holes and nuts. bunnings piece of alloy, autobarnz cams extinguisher.

Now that's a good idea :)

I assume that is on the drivers side? There is less room on the passenger side in the r33

Thanks!

Personally, I would use a strip of mild steel (1020 to 1045 grade) rather than the recycled beer cans that you get from Bunnings. The alloy that is sold by Bunnings is non structural and has a very low tensile strength and fatigue resistance. If you want to use an alloy, then go to a supplier of Aluminium and get an offcut strip of either 2000 or (preferably) 5000 or 6000 grade. These will give you the weight savings, as well as the tensile strength and fatigue resistance that is needed.

I got some help and its not mounted to a steel bracket using 2 bolts. 2 bolts hold in the seat and bracket.

Just fits under the seat, its a tight squeeze, but it works :)

Thanks

yeh sorry i meant bolts.

see ya at the track :)

Its a few days before ProRaw One (powerlifting comp, PTC frankston) :(

I see they have something on in March so I'll attend that, or hopefully something before then and not have about my fire extinguisher mount :)

Don't worry about police, most will probably see the extinguisher as a sign of responsibility...i.e. that you're a track dayer rather than a streeter :)

I was referring to scrutineers :)

The extinguisher is hidden under my front seat because I'm short, its only just visible...
