A Motec ADL or SDL is either backlit or not as they're different boards.

You can send a non-backlit to Motec for upgrade, but as you're changing the fundamentals it would be easier and maybe cheaper to sell and buy a new one.

I've got the new M84 going on my FD and couldn't help but get the a dash too... instead of the timing beacon path I've gone GPS instead which should be cool to play with (http://www.motec.com/gpsg1/gpsg1overview/).

Well it's an older model ADL with 1mb of data logging and 30 IOs. I visited MoTeC this arvo and got it checked out. By the time I left I decided not to sell it. They said to replace the current set up new would be circa $15k and that mine was still pretty useful. I got a full demo of the data logging capabilities and at that point I wanted to keep it. I'll post up if I change my mind.

As an aside it was an impressive facility and the tech support guy I spoke with was very enthusiastic and helpful and free with his time. I suspect this product is well supported.

I suspected you would do that. I have an M800 ECU and would have dearly loved the MOTEC dash except the price is :O

Had to satify myself with the AIM digital dash which is a lot cheaper and still works off the CAN buss.

Sounds like you made the right choice mate. Like the motec man told you it would cost a lot to replace and do again and at least you have the car it was installed in so it shouldn't be hard to get it all going again. Cool car too :)

Quick update. MoTeC have been very helpful and this is what I've got:

  • An older ADL with 1mb of logging activated out of 4mb. 30 i/o ports enabled
  • Timing beacon
  • Loom to suit 996 GT3 with 'some' sensors

I'm taking it to Motorsport Electrics next week to get it all tested (to be 100% sure it all works) and fully bottom out what I've got. After that it's all going to be for sale and I'll create another thread for that.

Cheers.
