Oil Analysis Victoria - What Are Your Experiences?

Recommended Posts

I'm keen to get a sample of my engine oil tested by an oil analysis company. Something like this - http://www.oilcheck.com.au/pricing/oil-analysis-price-list.html. I used some thin (5/30) oil for a track day and thinned it out a bit further than I ever have before, just wanted to get some piece of mind :).

Just interested to know if anyone else uses these services in Melbourne and if so who do you go to and why?

Duncan used that one I think. There was a very recent post, in the last week or two on it and what he got back.

I've put an order into:

http://www.e-monitor.com.au/

But no response yet, I also need to buy some more oil...anyone else want oil from performancelub in the South East? :)

I can find out who we use on ours and our customers turbine engines for trend monitoring. Fairly comprehensive considering the engines assemblies are worth over $500k. The company we use is possibly Mobil?

If you have oil pressure I wouldn't worry to much about it. Just cut your filter open and have a look at it. If theres no material in there just keep using it. If it does come back as a bad result are you really going to care on a motor worth $500 if you have a rb20. Their pretty much an indestructible motor. Mine survived a few calder drift nights and a near by others along with several trackdays considering it had a dodgy DrDrift tune that had my limiter set a 9000rpm which I only found out later. The motor out lasted the rb26 I put in it. Rb20's are strong and it will keep going.

This is for my 26 :P.

Yeah Duncan's thread has given me inspiration, for 40 dollars it's really value for piece of mind :), far better than suck it and see and lunch the thing.

Suramatix, I'd be interested to know how you got on with them perhaps you could drop us some feedback or even put up the report.

Alternatively, a mate of mine at work swears by roktex.com.au apparently they offer an easy to use kit with postage paid mailing back to the lab for under $30 with reports stored on their database for trending. I might give them a try.

They were very easy to deal with and the report was quite detailed. I would mention that you shouldn't waste your time with 1 sample, plan to do a couple, because a lot of the information they derive is based on the change in the levels of various metals etc.
