I'll be there for my first ever sprint too on the 17th, I'll be in my Skyline.

Sounds like you've got all the boxes ticked to pass scrutineering, just make sure your battery is secured and you've got your coolant overflow dumping into a bottle, not the ground. Even if you've missed something there will be lots of friendly people there to help you out to make sure you get out on the track ;) The whole "secondary method of securing the bonnet" is a little meh sometimes. Pack an old belt if you havn't got something else already ;). I'm pretty sure though that you don't need anything unless you've got an aftermarket bonnet, I know I've never needed anything.

At the end of the day you're not racing against anyone else, just against the clock, and that's still heaps of fun :D But when you're out there you'll be matched with others of similar driving calibre.

You'll need a blue triangle, not rectangle, lol, the sides need to be 150mm long, just use blue electrical tape or contact like you'd use to cover your old school books :P

If you're really anxious about it you can come round to mine on Friday\saturday night and we'll give it the once over and spin a few yarns with you. My housemate is also a Sprint virgin like you and will be taking his skyline for the first time too.

yup, sprint club days are good fun, i hit up basky today (last minute decision this morning haha) fire extinguisher needs to be mounted securely, ive been told by a scrutineer, within reach of driver is ok. but if your car is seriously on fire he said ignore it and get the F out first lol.

race at your own pace :) last one i did i went in a group where the cars were 3 secs a lap faster than me but i had a ball lol

helmet, long sleeved clothing, extinguisher, blue triangle.. and your set for fun! as zoid said, bring a belt in case for 2nd restraint.

i'd highly suggest a practice day before getting into competition too much , going fast around a track can be different to on the road . perhaps a sua track day should be organised?? i'd be keen to go out n have a bash and offer pointers to anyone who is looking for some :)

My first time taking the skyline out on the track (also first time driving the skyline ever) was the Tas Drift Festival and that ended well.pirate.gif

Funz keeps organizing sneaky trackdays and not telling any of us about it! :P

Super Sprints are very entry level anyway, it's pretty much a practice day.

hey dude, haven't been through all the replies but hers my 2 c worth

Brake pads, dont bother with standard OEM stuff, I'd recomend QFM AR1m's. made in Aus and very cheap ($119 fro front, $119 for rear on SAU), work from 0-780 degrees.

Fluid, use something respectable, Revolution race gear has good stuff that wont send you broke.

Braid lines are nice, not a "must" tho

Put a sock/sweat band on your power steering resovoir, it will spit and dribble.

check your tire preasures before you head out/if your have semi's dont forget a guage.

I alway over fill my 33, I use castrol edge, 10w60 and put about 5.2 litres in.

dont use your handbrake after a run, leave it in gear.

a few tools and zip ties dont go astray, epecially the gear to tighten cooler pipes etc

and if you run big spacers on your wheels or run "big" wheels for fitment, maybe grab a smaller set, rubbing/scraping fails hard at basky

that about covers it, bar helmet etc basic stuff. loads of fun to be had!

Thanks for the encouragement and advice, wasn't actually expecting more than like 1 reply over the day. This is a little over the top but would feel like an ass if I didn't reply individually :P

@Woolls I saw that it was super series rather than super sprint, but having something like that tearing up behind me on anything like a timed lap would scare the absolute shite out of me. I'd be more worried about trying to get out of the way than anything else :P It definitely won't be putting me off, thanks for the advice.

@Zoidberg I have absolutely no idea where the f*%k rectangle came from, most of the time my hands type and my brain is just a bored onlooker. I'm a software developer by trade so am comfortable enough typing that I will actually write out entire sentences of what someone is saying to me when trying to focus on what they're saying while continuing to type out a document/code, can lead to some very screwed up paragraphs. That being said, I'm pretty sure no one randomly yelled 'Rectangle' out when I was writing that... Very interested in catching up, even if it's just to perve on how you mounted the fire extinguisher :)

@Funz Good call on getting the F out if it's definitely on fire, I reckon I'll be putting it directly below my legs so it should be pretty easy to reach and release from the drivers position. If I have to use it on my first day out on the track it may be a while before I come back :P

@Toffy If there's anything coming up that isn't competition, I'd definitely be up for it :) The main reason I'm going for the super sprints is because it's not far off, I have 2 weeks of time in lieu that I'm taking from the end of this week so it fits in perfectly for getting things ready, and I know when it's on. I'm sure there's a heap of open days and whatnot that I'm not aware of, but you need to be in on it to find out in the first place. I'd love to go to a SAU track day at Baski, if anyone is thinking of planning this let me know and I'll be there. I'm not too worried about it being a competition as looking like a granny fool doesn't bother me at all and I'm not competitive when learning, I'd much rather be consistent and enjoy myself than go flying off the first corner at full throttle :) If you're going to be around, or anyone else for that matter, I'd definitely be up for some pointers.

@Mr. Untouchable wow, that's a lot of good info packed in there. I'll be getting a heap of things ready before the day, so I'll make a note of these and try to get as much done as possible. I've noticed the power steering reservoir before and it's sitting on it's tightest setting now, will wrap something around it to catch anything coming out. By the way, this is from ages ago but thanks for the link to the R33 power window mech on eBay, I ended up buying one. Funnily enough I ended up pulling out my existing one and pulling it to pieces to get it working again, the one I bought had weak gears that slipped on the way up and had to be helped :P
