Looks like I need a new A/C compressor. It is making a bit more noise than is normal.

Any one know how much work replacing it would be? Also any one got one or know a good place I can get a new or re-conditioned one?

Ta.

Easy for me to replace...... (Degas, unplug wire, remove a/c lines 2x10mm bolts, remove stone guard, remove 4 bolts holding the compressor, remove compressor).

No idea where a good place to get one. I think the cheapest option would be to find someone with a front cut, cos the usually throw that stuff out.

If you want to goto a shop, my guess would be Trojan. They might be the same as a different car that is Australian delivered, this would be a cheaper option.

NatRad in Phillip have done stuff for my cars. Not the cheapest but I do like their work.

You really should replace the receiver drier too if the system is opened for more than 10 mins, also as Eiji said, you will need to put oil in the system too. I think its roughly 30ml for every part you replace. If you can, measure the oil that comes out of the old compressor and try and put that amount in the new one.

I can regas it for you and should be able to inject oil too if needed.

PM me if you need anymore help.

EDIT: i can get prices on parts too if you like, as i can get them trade price :)

You cant check the oil level as far as i know, the oil is vacuumed out and replaced in the regassing process. Im not 100% sure how other machines work but im sure with our one you can only inject oil when doing a regas. And even then youll have to try and find out how much oil usually goes into the system in R33s, as all cars are different.

I have a compressor hanging off an old rb25 block, yours for nothing if you come get it.

I noticed in the other thread you are in banks. I'm a northie, any chance you come any more north, else i will head out your way. I will wait to hear back from others also, maybe it just needs the oil from a regas?

Any ideas where I can find this info out anybody?

ALSO Wal32r how much would a regas cost me? I'd like to let you hear and assess the issue sometime, you may get some ideas or have suggestions and recommendations.

I don't use the A/C heaps, but I like it to work when need it...

I can probably do a regas for $100 - $110, providing the car is on R134A gas.

If your compressor is noisy, id say its probably too far gone, unless the noise is the clutch on the front which is rare. With most compressors you can change the clutch on the front, but if its anything other than that youre better off getting another compressor.

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
