hey all,

ive nearly finished getting all my supporting mods together for my turbo upgrade at the end of this month :)

today i purchased genuine nissan exhaust manifold gaskets, manifold to turbo gaskets amd turbo to dumps gaskets, and afew oil line gaskets etc too

now i want to make sure ive got all the parts necessary, i dont want to cut corners i would rather outlay money for parts now and do it right the first time, so im wondering if its worth putting new exhaust manifold studs in while the turbos are out? do the old ones have a "used by date" ? or are the old ones perfectly fine to use again?

also i read people saying something about copper washers? im assuming these go somewhere on the oil/water lines? anyone have a part number?

any info would be of great help, Thanks

Depending on how long since the studs have been replaced, you will probably end up snapping one or two

I just did mine because I had one that has been broken for ages, while pulling them all out Another 4 snapped so yeah. It would be a good ide while the manifold is off..... New studs and Nuts shouldnt cost to much anyway

If you ring Nissan, you can buy what's called a turbo fitting kit. It comes with all the gaskets, o rings and washers you need to do the job. Always buy studs, just ask yourself 'Do you want to have to do it again?'

Chances are, they will be fine but for $5 each, not worth the risk IMO

Can anyone confirm the size of the studs please? Are they M8 x 1.25mm - 38mm long hi tensile steel?

Are the ones used on the head for the manifolds the same ones used for the turbos to bolt the dump pipes too ?

Cheers guys

this will be a good question for everyone, whats the best way to pull the old studs out?? just use nuts and lock em againt each other, then undo the stud with the inside nut?

and what do you guys do for broken off studs??

Are the ones used on the head for the manifolds the same ones used for the turbos to bolt the dump pipes too ?

Cheers guys

No. The head to manifold studs are regular studs at about $2.20 each. Yes M8, not sure about pitch. Just call nissan with your VIN and they will know what they are.

The turbo to dump studs and the turbo to manifold studs are hi tensile and are around $10 each! It adds up when you have 18 of them! Having said that all mine were renewed upon rebuild.

yep it's worth doing. and as mentioned above no they are not all the same.

just to add one important point. BUY GENUINE NISSAN STUDS. I know of so many stories of woe from people using cheap studs from their local nuts and bolts place. the genuine nissan ones are definitely better. yeah they cost a bit but it's worth doing. definitely replace them.

and yes you can just use two nuts on each stud locked against either other to get them out, or there are special stud removal/replacement tools too.

After buying genuine Nissan exhaust manifold studs and bolts I wouldn't recommend buying them from anywhere else.

The nuts used on the head to manifold studs are "pinched" ie are slightly oval so once done up there not ment to come loose !

good man. it's good when someone takes advice! I was not saying it to increase my shares in nissan! and yeah the nissan studs and nuts are better than the generic ones you buy at various places.
