Hi guys,

Ive been thinking about possibly switching over to a sequential gearbox for my car. I know of GETDRAG and Hollinger but is there anything else out there? A Hollinger is way out of my budget but i hear the GETDRAG ones can be had for under 5k?

Where can one find more information about these products? does anyone down in Melbourne have one for a possible test?

Apart from being very noisy both in 1st gear, reverse and low revs, What else can one expect out of these types of gearboxes?

cheers

dunno what a GETDRAG gearbox is, but something tells me you're talking about a Getrag, they don't just make sequentials only either, they R34 GTR and Poopra both came with factory Getrag gearboxes.

something tells me what you're after is something like this:

in action:

converts your H pattern to "sequential".

I just realized that this still needs clutch activation to operate. Ideally id like to convert to a sequential transmission rather then a H box converter....if you know what i mean.

A true sequential gearbox is 5 figures, bit ridiculous for a street car.

Stock gearboxes are more than adequate for the power you are making, so unless you have 15k or so to burn, there really isn't much point especially considering you still need to use the clutch.

5 figures huh? i was hoping to be under the 5k mark.

Off the line launches are somtimes very difficult in a MT. Ive invested alot of money into suspension and tyres but it only does so much. Its also sometimes very frustrating at how much speed is lost during shifts. You can only shift so fast in a MT, and yes im using a short shifter as well. Recently sat in a 3-speed auto making close to 580hp. Its ridiculous how fast these transmission allow the car to move.

Say what you want, i may not be a master at shifting but AT will always be quicker then MT.

Ah no, Seq boxes are expensive, just how it is.

Ye it only does so much as its predominately down to the driver controlling it.

When I was racing @ Calder regularly I could manage 1.9-2.0 60ft's with 225 street tyres on there. It's not just a case of the tree goes green and you plan the foot to the floor.

Either that or get a better set-up that will stage/control boost and feed it in.

Also a short shifter I found, made my shifts slower.

You also have to factor in a rebuild of the dog rings and other components in a sequential shifted box every 5,000 k's or so as well, this is usually in the 2~3,000 range.

If you're setting that thing up for drags, look at putting in a really good auto and torque converter combination. Sequential is pointless unless you're hitting the track.

If you want to do clutchless manual on a "budget", get a straight cut dog engagement gearset. You'll still have to practice your launches but your shifts won't be a great deal worse than an auto.

Getrag also has to be the most misspelled and mispronounced name in the history of gearbox manufacturers lol.

sif. Porsche 911's doppelkupplungsgetriebe gearbox was concieved by the germans to fuck with the allies.

You're thinking of the entire German language...that's right, they pre-empted WW2 with antero-mindf**king.

Ever played Tales of Valor as the panzer elite? That'll leave you doppeled.
