Hi guys,I just bought a Skyline R34 GT-T with an aftermarket intercooler installed.

When I bought the car, I didn't or never tried using the AC.On the day I took the car home,I used the AC and it was very warm, specially when idling (like on the traffic lights).

I asked the previous owner and he told me,not really sure what he means but he said that 1 of the AC fan was removed in order to install that intercooler because there was not enough space.

Just curious did all of you who has aftermarket intercooler installed on your car had to take off remove the AC fan ?

Today I went to Autosparks, and they told me that it's very low on gas (freon) but before that they need to check if there are any leaks on the piping,if there are leaks. Then there's no point in regassing until we cover up the leaks.

And the temperature of the compressor is 300PSI higher than usual,he told me that if the compressor keeps working too hard like this.It might break and I have to change to a new compressor which is around $2000 ?

Any advice, tips or informations would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

On my car I found it necessary to replace the aircond fan with an aftermarket slimline one. if the previous owner has just ditched the fan you might want to think of getting one too, although you might (maybe not) have to pull out the intercooler to install the fan. NB Although if he has also installed an aftermarket aluminium radiator the necessary sensor to switch the fan might be missing and you will have to install a new one somewhere.

new compressor would prob be 300-500 but you could get one on here for 50 or so from other SAU members. if its very low on gas then the pressure shouldnt be 300psi or 300psi higher than normal. maybe it had just been parked for a while and heatsoaked. i have a "hybrid" intercooler and there is about 10mm space between the original fan and cooler. you prob need to measure the gap and see what will fit. stock fan on r33 gtst is about 90mm at widest part and 60mm at bottom edge where its closest

I needed to cut the small lugs on the front of the fan to get clearance for my intercooler on the R33.

The stagea came back without the fan after having the FMIC fitted. Several months later after driving it in hot weather (sitting in traffic) it was apparent there was an issue with the aircon.

I went out and bought a slimline aftermarket fan (like Bob/KiwiRS4T).

Also you will notice that electric fan operates as an overheat fan. Once water temps exceed, I believe 92 degrees, the electric thermostat (located on the RHS bottom of the radiator) will kick over and activate the A/C fan relay which fires up that fan to aid in cooling.

I suggest it gets replaced.

I have a GTT with a front mount and no issue with the stock electric fan, still there and still working....

I would say whoever did the install did a fast simple job rather then spending the time to align it right and do the job correctly...

Put a new fan in there for sure as the A/C will now run hotter due to the intercooler passing hot air onto the condenser....

Do you think I should just go back to the workshop who did my intercooler and ask him to fix it ?

Actually the workshop who installed the intercooler is the dealer who imported my car from Japan (Imports 101) in Perth.

And the previous owner didn't throw the fan,I still have it with me.

I personally would not have accepted that as a job done as they may have finished one job but have created another....

I would take it back and ask the question BUT i would not hold your breathe to them fixing it for free as you purchased the car as it is and the previous owner accepted the work as it was....

At least see what they say and then go about fixing it as they might have a simple solution...

Unfortunately it is probably a cheap china cooler and was just slapped on the car the most simple way - this is no dig at the company as they need to make a dollar and would charge more for better quality, so blame the previous owner for being cheap and accepting it :)

hey guys... i was the previous owner on this car and took it to a few places to see what could get dont i got this intercooler from justjap, and know other people with r34 who have had no problems with it at all as their cars are manual. every workplace i went to said they would need to take the aircon fan out as the automatics have an extra fan for auto transmission cooling or something?
