Relocating Fog Lights

Recommended Posts

I have a dayz front bar and as a result of putting an FMIC in have had to remove my dayz foggies, I noticed some members discussing relocating them to the outer holes on the bar. I would like to see some pics of people who have done this and also get some tips about the easiest way to do this. Id rather not leave a rare factory option off the car.

Cheers Chris

probably should have just posted in that thread rather than creating a new one, but anyway. i did it 2 weekends ago.

it was a day of trial and error but basically you need to take the brackets off the back of the lights and rotate them 90 degrees so that the mounting points are on the side, and no longer on the top.

then i got a no degree bracket, mounted one edge to the driving light bracket, and the other edge to the underside of the metal reinforcement bar for the front bar.

it is a tight fit, but it's doable. and you will need to do some trimming of the rear of the light housing and the metal brackets with an angle grinder. you will need to jack the front of the car up as high as you can go, remove the plastic undertrays and splash gaurds so you have access to the are - be prepared to spend a day on your back looking upwards!

there are probably better methods that allow more adjustability - but given the space restrictions, this was the best option for me. the first light took me most of the day, but the second one took me about an hour. so as i said, a sh1tload of trial and error - there is no 'easy' way or template to use.

things to be careful of are:

- measure 3 times, cut once.

- you will need to take out the mesh in the side vents - and either leave it out, or cut it to re-fit. i tried cutting it with an angle grinder but the paint is plasticized and it melted on the edges and looked ratty - so going to get some mesh from supercheap instead.

i have to take one of the lights off to seperate and reseal as it has condensation in it - so when i do that i'll try take pics. but beyond that, good luck with it!

(ps. it looks awesome, you'll be happy with the end result if you persevere. i nearly threw the towel in a few times, but happy i didnt)

yeh, i can give that a go mick. but if it got in there once, it'll get in there again so there must be a break in the seal. i have had success with heating the oven to 200 deg, switching it off, throwing the housing in and pulling it out 10 mins later - they seperate pretty easy.

Chris - the wiring is plenty long enough. it actually runs off the back of the fog lights in the front bar, so you will have even more excess than you used to, and it's all covered in plastic tubing so nice and sturdy.

and i wrote 'no degree' bracket, but i meant '90 degree'.
