I was perusing Yahoo Japan and I happened upon this classic Tommy Kaira M30 Skyline for sale

If anyone had deep pockets and a strange willing to own such a car they should check it out. Would be hard to know what standard should be like, and therefore exactly what you'd end up with though.

wont say deep pockets. car is $6k to buy so roughly $12k landed here at a guess.

it would be the sort of thing that the 31 guys would like. if I wasn't in teh midst of doing a 32 I would buy it myself.

I don't know that I would bother, it's just another HR31.

If I was looking for something diferent, I think I would be sourcing one of these ...................... the real M30 Infinity or F31 Leopard

Thats awesome, the value has obviously come down on these a lot in the last year or two.

Absolute collector's car.... they are definitely just another HR31 - to most people.

RB30DE is very different from the usual 80's jap stuff, so it's just rare and different, that's all they have going for them.

Mind you one of these in stock form would walk all over any stockish RB20, and prob leave a standard GTS-R behind too.

I see the point you're trying to put over BUT?

At the end of the day it's JUST a tricked up HR31, so why more collectable than JUN, HKS, TRUST, etc or in Australia, Stewart Wilkins or Arthur Jackson with anything L series?

Cheers, D

    • Is the RB26 actually that far off the mark? Honestly from where I'm sitting a VR38DETT is not actually that much more advanced than the RB26. Yes, there is a scavenge pump on the VR38, it's smarter in a number of ways but it's not actually jumping out to me as alien technology. Something like a B58 or V35A-FTS on the other hand has so many surprising little design features that add up to be something that just isn't comparable.

    • Well I had 2 choices from then on. I either had to (reluctantly) move it on to another potential buyer and take the loss on the chin. Or I stick with it and turn it into a restoration project. I chose the latter. Project Snowstorm began! The frp body kit was the first thing to go. Turns out the original colour used to be silver. The Neo and gearbox were removed, along with the prop and exhaust system before it took a trip to the bodyshop, where I wouldn’t see it again for quite some time due to the pandemic hitting very soon after they took it away. Eventually, progress began and damage assessments made. Even the front chassis leg was in pretty bad shape!     Then the chopping commenced. For these guys it was just usual routine, to me it looked absolutely terrifying!   More to follow as I’m struggling to focus on my screen at 12:45 am!!!
