The sensor has a 60cm lead and ends in a plug, and i'd like the get the plug inside the cabin to keep it clean. It might just make it to the shifter hole, and i could route it behind the exhaust heat shield that's bolted to the body near the cat. I cant see anywhere else that it could poke through. Anyone find somewhere better to run theirs?

Which unit did you get?

I just ran a holesaw through the tunnel and put a rubber bung there, my controller is beside the bung under the carpet.

If you have the innovative controller, make sure not to mount it in the engine bay as the voltage regulator inside may overheat and fail, used to be a common problem I think and got them a bit of a bad name.

Yeah its an innovative unit. The plug is pretty big - i'd need to cut at 4cm diamater hole to get it. How big was the hole you cut? I was hoping to avoid drilling or cutting if possible.

I shoved the sensor through, not the plug.

Facepalm! Wow...the senility is really kicking in hard. Anyways the bung is the correct thread but the hole in the pipe is too small so i'm to to have to drill it out and run a tap through it.....

Adam, the M18x1.5 tap is worth like $80, can you get the bung that came with the innovative welded on by a mate while the exhaust is on the car?

80! Bugger! I guess i can get the inno bung installed at an exhaust shop. Silver lining is that I can put it in a better location to protect the sensor from ground damage, which was a bit of a worry.

If you haven't got one already, drop an exhaust temp gauge in that old hole mate...

Tell me more;

- are they same thread but thinner sensor so should plug straight in?

- are they still effective that far from the turbo?

- which one/how much?

The exhaust temp sensor needs to be right after the turbine outlet, usually where the stock o2 sensor bung is. My temp probe has a 1/8 bsp thread so you would need to weld up the old hole and tap it or just make an adapter from whatever the old thread was to the 1/8. You wont be getting true manifold temp there, so I always assume a 100-200 degree loss just to be safe.

I went for a cheap s/h stepper motor electronic one of a forum member, got it for $50 I think. They aren't expensive over in the states anyway. I got the Prosport one, it's been great.

Btw, the wideband bung is supposed to be a foot or two back and make sure there are no gasket leaks or these may fudge the figures. I put mine in the dump when I made it, due to space constraints.

Oh im rb26 with twins and have still have the narrowbands in for closed loop. The bung is on the front pipe after the merge about 20cms before the cat. Wont worry about the temp sensor then - I would have to run two and pull the turbos to get the extra bungs done. Thanks for all the help.

    • Nah, shouldn't have made any difference. Reds on, or car running, should be same same for what you were doing.

    • I've owned a few scooters over the years, a Vespa PX oil burner was my first scooter, followed by a few others, including a little 50cc BeeWee that I used as a barracks bike, and I've had a blast on all of them, they really are the cheapest for of city/suburb transport around The only issue with scooters in Australia is lots of people look down on them due to their size,  maybe they need a big bike to make up for something else where they are lacking, unlike Europe and Asia where every man an their dog owns one, and now that filtering is legal in NSW, local traffic is never a issue Not to say I haven't owned my share of big cc bikes over the years, but they were for more blasting through the hills or Hwy riding where it needed to sit on Hwy speeds Safety wise, I ride like everyone is always trying to kill me, everyone is running a red, or running stop/give way signs, or generally asleep at the wheel, which most people are duringtheir commute, I also ride really safe, and give myself, and everyone else enough room in case I need to pull some hasty evasive actions, I've done a few rider training days over the years, which has come in handy on more than a few occasions  As for mods, there's nothing really, and yes your right about aftermarket exhaust, all you get is loud and obnoxious noises from them, like every 250-300 cc you hear with a aftermarket muffler, in saying this I did put a rear muffler from a 125 Aprilla on one of my old 125 scooters, it was horrendous and no amount of full face helmet and ear plugs would dampen that noise As for coming from the Harley, and what a overpriced POS that was, I no longer do big rides as my poor old busted joints ache after about 1/2 an hour of riding, long cruises are so much more enjoyable now in a car, so a big bike would be pointless
