Hi Guys,

I have a quick question about the EPA.

I have had two FULL EPA's in the past. One was in May and the other in September of last year. On both occasions I was pulled over by cops and defected on the spot and had the EPA notice(s) sent approx a month after the defects.

I then was told that if i get another EPA I would get a large fine. Does anybody know the cost of this fine and if this is true?

And if I was to receive a simple noise test notice in the mail would that still count towards the 3rd strike or does it need to be a full EPA for me to get this 'fine'?

I have checked the EPA sticky and read through quite a bit of it but couldn't find clarification on this.

Cheers

EPA notice is an EPA notice, even if it's just sound. If there is some sort of 3 strikes scheme then you can be sure you'll cop it. If they find you a large sum of money, it's because you're not "learning your lesson" and it's probably time to consider ditching the mods or the car?

whether you think so or not... i can tell you as fact, there is

if you don't believe me, call the EPA yourselves :)

there are a number of users who have posted up of late that have been EPA'd with around a 500 fine.

yeh the fine your talking about nismoid is the $600 one for exhaust noise been over which the people who copped that have been done at EPA random test sites etc, dont think you can get the find when you have been "dobbed in" so to speak as there is no proof your car is/was over the DB limit at that point in time.

There is certainly a 3-strike type of thing as well.

I remember discussing this with Lou Raffa moons ago. He is the guy who does most of the inspections, you can contact him if you ring the EPA and ask to talk to someone about car related EPA notices etc.

I don’t agree or think it’s right – but they assume that if you keep getting reported, then you keep illegally modding the car after you get tested. Anyone who voted for Bracks should hang their head in shame.

EPA & Fines = becoming more regular.

There can be a fine associated, rest assured it does exist, of that I am 100% certain.

Yep! I've only had one EPA for noise and they mentioned they weren't giving me a fine but the fine for a noise EPA notice is $599...

Thanks for the feedback and help guys :)

I guess my next question is - My 2 past EPA's were full ones (Noise/ Emissions + visual inspection under hood etc) so they weren't just noise ones. If I get done for another full EPA (not a noise one) will the fine be more severe then the $599 fine as mentioned in this thread?

Cheers

Brent

YES you can get a '3rd strike fine'. My mate copped 3 EPAs (none for noise) and yes on the 3rd one he was going to have to pay a ~$600 fine if he was to clear it.

From what I remember the fine was not actually for not complying with emissions; it was a fine for putting stock stuff back on and trying to 'trick' the EPA upon inspection, despite the fact they had photo evidence of the highmount GT30 and External Gate not plumbed in :)

The car is no longer street registered.
