need win 98 startup disc

Hi Guys,

My dad just called me, on his way to the airport to tell me that he is getting cable installed on monday and needs his compaq/win 98 startup disc? thats all the info he could give me... Does anybody know definately what they will want?

Next q - does anybody have one i could borrow/buy ??? I need it before monday. i'll pick it up

He either needs a Windows 98 boot disk or the Windows 98 Installation CD-ROM

My money's on the latter.

sweet - i have an old one here (genuine), but no serial... and i am guessing they'll get funny if i give them the serial on a piece of paper?

i beleive they only need the disk just in case it needs some system files (which they sually do). Well thats what they techie that came over to install my mates cable some time ago did/needed. Most of the techies that come over to setup cable arnt too bad, you should be right with the piece of paper seiral number. But if you can find a orignal serial label or something then it would be good just in case

prank - they will need the win98 install disc incase some other protocols need to be added to TCP/IP or networking etc

you wont need a serial number as they will put the disc in, go to dial up properties and add the protocls from the disc there....

just make sure that the version of windows 98 is the same as he is running.. IE if he has SE make sure you have a SE disk.
