5 stud GTS25t brake conversion will fix that (~$500).

If he wants to spend the money on his NA, let him do so. I'm quite happy with my NA after doing all the mods suggested in here even after getting my full license.

No one's mentioned LSD aswell. Try and find an R33 viscous LSD, maybe cost you around $200-300.

Speaking about LSD, my original idea was to build something that I could use for drifting... but an N/A skyline for drifting = fail imo, can't get that torque I need.

By a track car.

I'm tempted mate. I don't go to the track enough to build one, though. And I've already got paintball as my expensive, money consuming hobby/sport.

Also, I have two years till I'm off my Ps.

So getting a turbo car now is a bit of a waste... but I'm really not enjoying my N/A anymore. She's really comfortable, though.. Iunno maybe I need to sell it to another P-Plater who'll appreciate her. But noone's going to buy it for how much it costs.

If you really like your car I reckon spend all the 6000 on decent coilovers, nolathane products everywhere, better swaybards / adjustable panhard rod (not sure if you need one but I know my 31 did when I went lower), decent LSD, lightweight flywheel. You would still have some left over too to spend on other stuff. If you got all your suspension and handlin shit worked out , when ur off your p's just do an engine transplant then or na+t your current engien, that way you would already have the awesome gear under the car.

Is it legal to add carbon fiber panels to your car?  So instead of more power, make it more lighter.  Carbon fiber hood, fenders, doors, front and rear bumpers, seat buckets, roof (cut metal one out), floor panels (cut them out too), spare wheel well (that one as well).  Add some bracings.  I think that should amount to $6000.

I had an R33 GTS, and the mods I did were Cusco front strut tower bar, Apexi Power Intake (clamped a PVC cone shield to it), crank vented filters, Summit Racing red ignition cables, better ground (four 8 gauge amplifier cables from ground to the engine) deleted the resonance box on the intake pipe, and made a cold air duct to the Apexi Power Intake by cutting out a hole where one of the turbo pipings would be in a turbo R33.  It sounded incredible, the exhaust was stock but the intake noise was awesome.  It wasn't fast, but I was really happy with it.  All were done under $300 so imagine what $6000 will do.

carbon fibre panels are illegal, as far as i know.

secondly, off all the mods you did to your GTS, only maybe 1 or 2 would've actually gained you any power (apexi intake and CAI feed to it).

Yes they gave some power, mostly it is the noise.  I noticed though sometimes I lose some power, I guess the CAI is flooding the AFM when I go at high speeds.  There are two other mods that I forgot to write down, it is a throttle body coolant bypass, and the closed crankcase ventilation was piped to the firewall.  Since it never snows here, I did the throttle body coolant bypass, the CCV was to suck some cold air from the air conditioned cabin.  They don't do much, or anything, but something to do to my GTS at the time.

If you're not interested in big power and as you say just interested in "Getting into a nice car" then its obvious to go for visual rather than performance.

Get a nice body kit + nice light set of rims + good tyres + exhaust for some sound + new paint job + nice bucket seats + new steering wheel + gear knob + lowered suspension + new slotted brake rotors + braded brake lines + good brake pads + a nice engine tune ... there's your nice car.

Visual isn't my idea of a nice car.

But I agree with suspension, new brakes, braided lines, and a tune.

As a general thing I prefer stock looking cars... but I'm looking at whacking a very cheap kit onto mine atm.

- Fix any worn bushes/joints and wear and tear items.

- High flow panel filter

- Decent wheels

- Coilovers

- Best tires you can afford

- Premium brake pads

I've found a cheapish R33 GTST. It needs some body work and a good service by the looks/sounds of things, but I'll have a thorough look with a friend next week when I'm back from holidays.

Buy a dirt cheap turbo 33, steal all of the goodies off of it, like diff brakes, engine upgrade for later, gearbox etc,and what ever else it has that would benefit you and then sell off the rest of the parts.

You can easily buy one for a lot less than 6k

Why not just scruntch the money up and jam it up your own arse? That's about on par with dropping $6k on an NA 33 insofar as usefullness goes.

Seriously, if you can't put up with your current car for another couple of years, you've got issues. Well, either that or a bottomless pit of money cause you'd have to be stupid to spend money on an NA 33 when the benefits of holding off for a while are so large.

You know a good test to give children is to put a lolly in front of them and tell them they can have that one lolly now or they can wait until tomorrow and get 5 lollies and see what happens. 99/100 times they'll take the lolly now. They don't have the brain development to actually weight up pros and cons of taking or waiting. Maybe you have the brain of a 2 year old?

Also, nanogrip, I'm not sure if you are Australian or not, but in Australia we speak British English and it's a bonnet and guards, not hood and fenders. Learn it.

Hood/fenders = US English

Bonnet/guards = British English.

They used to have a universal supercharger kit available on their web page, came with a thick aluminum plate, brackets, hoses, etc., but I don't know if they still offer the kit.

^ -- Seriously that $6k will just be a complete and utter total waste. Just wait it out dude, with $6k dropped into a turbo motor you'll make some pretty good gains!

If you have $6k now, imagine what you'll have by the time you can buy a turbo? mmmmm.

So just wait.

    • No chop chop of anything mate, it is what it is, plus, I don't want any air that isn't either going through the cooling stack or intake getting into the engine compartment increasing under bonnet pressure  Yeah, the Mazda Speed aftermarket intake above is less than ideal for multiple reasons, the requirement to remove the bumper every time you need to service the filter, and also smaller in diameter than the NC1 OEM one Weirdly, Mazda Speed is part of the Mazda motorsport division, "form over function" and $$$$$ for Mazda from unsuspecting punters I suspect  After some googling about them it seems they added no power, but do increase some induction noise Meh In other news, the electricians have been busy today at the house, and are back tomorrow finishing up all the security stuff and exterior lighting, they also added some lighting on the garage ceiling, which will come in handy when working in the garage when it's not freezing out there My Birdies raised garden bed also arrived today as well, which I'll put together and place tomorrow, it's a big tall Bessie, 74cm high, 92cm wide and 214cm long, this will come in handy as I am starting to get "stockpiles" of good soils from doing landscaping, some of the clean rock, namely the river stone, will go into the bottom of the bed for drainage, as well as the old Apricot tree that was out the back,  and when it's full, I'll grab another one, I will be growing enough veggies to keep me both busy as well as supplementing the shopping list I'm also awaiting another quote for a new Colourbond front fence, as the "1980 style cemented in rock edging" that was there and "fashionable at the time" looked arse, and my god, the amount of cement used to fix the rock was insane, it took 1.5 days for me to break out 12 meters of the stuff by hand, trim the bushes back to the fence line and dump it out the back of the joint to deal with at a later date,I will soon need a skip bin to tip it all Unfortunately they did alot of the cemented in rock around the joint, which I hate, so a few pallets of retaining wall blocks for around the front and back where the cemented in rock is will be required to bring it up to a standard, and look, that I will be happy with 12 meters worth of rock and cement Finished smashing the fence line and ready for a fence to be installed, yes, the lawns need some TLC and thickness, the previous owner trimmed the grass to the roots 馃槩, the TLC I can provide, and nature over time will do the rest And there's probably about another 40 meters worth of this landscaping abomination left to do around the front and back gardens, I'm guessing maybe 3 or 4 tons worth, tip fees for this will be a killer Meh, all in all I'm having fun and keeping busy, plus, it's good PT

    • Just cut the bottom of the guard out. It's no longer got a big duct, to a sealed box, or a restriction. It has all the cold air from outside. Also, that cai you showed looks terrible. Bends are NOT good for go gos!
