Sorry to totally disagree with everyone so far.. but as a long time owner of a gt-r(ish thing) and a gts-t or two, I would really suggest steering clear of the gt-r. Awesome car but not good as a first performance car.. they really are very expensive to maintain and seem a lot more drama prone than they sedate cousins. Any gts-t or gt-t is a much better option to get started in the skyline scene in my view and when you grow tired of that by all means get the gt-r :).

Nothing wrong with a nice 34 gtt, Although i am bias lol. I looked at the older models. But quickly found out that to get a decent r33 gtst you could spend a little more and get into a 34. Obviously 99% of people would take a 34 gtr over a gtt, But its up to you if you can justify paying double if not triple the cost of a gtt to get one. I couldn't but that's just me.

lol op says "R33 gtrs are ugly" but then says r33gtst look good.. wtf?

imo.. go a 32/33gtst... they are cheap... most will be slightly f**ked in some way... (they are old cars)... you can play the waiting game and hope that you find something decent (the other option is import one)

iirc 20K budget? r33gtst $6000....depending on how bad it is.. drop a few grand on it, major service/alarm/immobiliser etc.. so by the time you get it on the road and back to a decent mechanical running order you would be up to about the 10 grand mark.. 10 grand on mods over a few years..

in my opinion BNR34 would be out of the question unless you have the following:

1. Garage

2. 50-60k cash

3.3-6 months to find an example worth paying for, unless you get very lucky.

4. a second car or can rely on public transoprt etc..

just a few things i would regard as essential when/to owning one..

be wary of getting a v35, especially if youve wanted a turbo for along time... it just wont cut it for you after awhile imo.

gtt/gtst would be the go. less investment, less risk. all depends where you are in life really.

Whilst you learn from your bro' and get insurance, you can already breathe easier. Insurance premium sucks at your age, but you just need decent income.

We're talking (arguably) about the 1st production car that ever went around Nurburgring in less than 8'

And the new R35 has cut off less than 3/4 min off that.

R33 GTR

Erm I've got a 33gtr as my first and only car though. Own it for just over 3 yrs and I dont think its costing me a lot to own it. But I do pay more for the 100,000km service. Having said that, I take a bus to work everyday.

Get the 34GTT IMHO, much nicer than any 33, and with nice dish rims, (yet to get a set), lowering, cleaning up depending on your tastes, easily looks almost as sexy as the 'bit phatter' and more aggressive looking 34 GT-R. And definitely better than any 33, the 32 also looks as good as the 34, in a different way.. Cheap insurance, ok running costs, spend a bit on a few bolt-ons and you have a car easily almost as fast as or even faster (light weight) than a GT-R on a similar mod-level, from a running race etc; from a standstill or in cornering the GT-R will of course, eat you alive, but at your age. as others have said, you need the cash, and unless you have an unlimited supply, go the GTT, I love mine to bits, of course I would love a R34GT-R anyday over any GTT/GTSt, but I just cannot justify the costs of owning one, and I don't like the looks of the 33 much..just my 2c

I dont think insurance would be any different tbh. All imports should be roughly the same. I'm paying around 1100 PA for full comprehensive with 400 or 500 excess (lowest).

I used to hate 33s like a lot of you guys but due to some circumstances the 34gtr became out of my reach. And I simply cannot refuse a mechanically sound N1. And yes, the 33 did grow in me.

My advise is get what you can afford and budget for rainy days. When it comes to car, you typically get what you pay for (not saying impossible to get something thats good and cheap). I would always look for a basic car with good mods and untouched engine.

yes you don't need a lot of money to enjoy a GTR, if you keep it in the shed and only drive it on the weekend.. start doing 20k kms a year and see how the costs go up..

to the OP, whatever you get, if it is your daily don't go nuts on mods or it will lose its reliability, not to mention petrol pinch.gif

R33 GTR

I can look over that link above again and again and sure, the car is a bit twitchy with stock V-Spec suspension; however...

* it's a glorious run

* it's a glorious car

And I defy any R34 GT-T or V35 GT to get anywhere close to what the R33 GT-R can do.

Remember the car in that link is bone stock!

Just with S-Tune suspension, Kurosawa could knock off another 3 sec. With bone-jarring R-Tune suspension, another 7 sec.

Are you after "driver satisfaction?". Driven a couple of R33 GT-Rs?

Erm. Not 20 but close enough like 15. What has km gotta do with anything? Dont tell me oil change for gtt or gtst is 50% cheaper? All you need to do is do the mods properly and dont push the car anywhere near its limit (e.g. Running over too much power).

It does stay in the shed most of the day but I do attend club events like drag day, happy lap etc. Not just going but actually doing the event.

Just an update... I have my full licence and am looking at 2004 - 2006 silver v35's.

and those will $1000 you to death.. old nissan is where its at not renault.

I had a silver V35 coupe - 2004 model / grade 4A.

Got bored of it real quick and bought a 350z convertible and a 350z hard top instead.

Im assuming Chris above is referring to the window motors and the door lock actuators. If so, $1000 is actually a cheap quote if thats for both sides and both parts - i'd suggest you keep his number handy as you'll definately need it.

From personal experience - Having also owned a series 2 R33, R33 GTR, S15, quite a few R34's - when I compare the older models to the new, Nissan dont seem to make them like they used to. Design faults with the above mentioned parts along with other design faults you'll find as you go along (like the roof on the 350z convertible which kept tearing around the rear window).

Personally, I would not recommend a V35 unless you really, really like the style and really need the back seat. Otherwise if you're after a car that is similar - go the 350z. Will also be easier to sell later when it comes time to move it on.
