Acting Senior Sergeant Ashely Hodges said Plenty Road accounted for 15 per cent of all collisions in the Whittlesea and Darebin areas in that time.

"We know that a lot of these collisions could have been avoided if motorists had been driving responsibly, driving within the speed limit and without distraction," he said.

"All too often we see dangerous driving in this area. We see hoon drivers putting all motorists and their passengers at risk. We see distracted drivers on mobile phones and other devices and we see drink-drivers place all road users in danger."

He said during Operation Paste, which starts today, police would target speeding, unlicensed and unregistered driving, unroadworthy vehicles, dangerous and hoon driving, excessive noise and drink and drug-driving.

The operation will run until next Tuesday."

Watch out guys. I'm in the process of deciding which way to best get home without using plenty road at all tonight!

Avoid it like the plague Nath. Drove home from work in Hawthorn half way around the state to avoid plenty road. Saw three cops pulling kunts over not far from my place, so the car is locked up for the rest of the week.

Was in the nissan patrol crusing down plenty road heading to work and saw 3 normal patrol cop cars and 2 TMU......I didn't even travel that far down plenty rd either. Seems like they are already starting.
