$40K on a cleveland???

are you building 3 of them?

lets see,

Dart 9.2" deck block is $3000

Scat/Eagle 393/408 Forged kit is <$5000

CHI 3V alloy heads are ~$3000

CHI Intake to match ~$750

Custom headers $1000

Ross balancer $500

Billet flex plate is $500

MSD or ICE Ignition $1000

Comp Cams Rollers _ $500

Assembly $1000

Solid cam and lifters $500

thats ~15k for a bomb proof motor that will make 550+hp

add a good E85 ready Proform carb and its $16k

Add a build C4 for 3k a 9" with a full spool and 4.11's for anothers 1500 bucks....still well short of 40k.

so I would find a new engine builder

i want something that will be different to any other skyline ive seen, as i said my fathers XB John Goss is my inspiration and this will be my project.

Money is not the issue for me.

  • Nope 2

What if i told you a way you could double or tripple that money in under 5 years, or have over 8 million bucks in the bank by the time you retire??

Do not spend 40g on a motor . The 1000hp r33 that jeremy clarkson was reviewing was selling for 50 000 pounds, and had a 150 000 pound motor lol

Its a false economy.

^^ This will be better than any engine you could get locally, throw some new rings and bearings at it and be happy with 850hp

Quick edit - or if you really wanna blow 40k on an engine have Roush build you a new one...cause thats what they cost!

Complete!

or this one

has 0ks on it

either way the car will still be a shipping container on wheels......

a 4 door R31 is not going to impress the crowds at bogannats no matter what engine is in it

i know i will always be loosing money, its the way the industry works.

When i have it all finished, ill make sure to definately show you

But i really dont want a windsor.

oh FYI

The diff im getting is a 3.25 to 1 LSD custom built to fit my skyline and installed for $4000 so i believe your $1500 is a bit short there too buddy.

Wow!!@!

4k will buy you a mark williams or strange diff...

I really suggest you find a new work shop

Why dont you pick the heaviest lump of cast iron available for 350 somethin cubes. Dirty old cleveland could anchor the queen Mary.

Windsor or LS1 would be a far better proposition.

oh well... all entitled to our opinions right?

This is the way im going to do it, i will always welcome suggestions and obviously places that might be able to do things cheaper. But with a certain few things i will go to those i trust.

However if anyone knows anyone who is in sydney or south coast who could direct me to someone to help me out, would be much appreciated

why do women come on here, ask for suggestions, ignore all suggestions because they want to do it their way, decide on somewhat silly ideas then proceed to quote ridiculous prices as if we will all be impressed?

this thread reminds me of a certain other thread about supercharging a 34.

i'm willing to bet that 1 of the following 3 things happen.....

1: we never hear anything further about this once this thread dies but in 6 months time the OP is back with some other silly idea

2: the engine gets built, goes in and goes 'pop'

3: the engine goes in and gets crashed in a very short amount of time.

and dare i say it, if blowing 40k on an engine isn't an issue for someone who is only 21, i'm guessing 1 of the following 3 is true as well....

1: rich daddy who is paying for it (especially if he's spent $36k on a motor himself)

2: she is a drug dealer

3: she is a stripper/prostitute, but then a r31 wouldn't really be the car of choice as 1 night's work would pay for a 31....

Dont know about most of them but number 2 is a winner. The old clevo was famous for making good power but notorious for shitting itself due to a crap oiling system.

Hanging it out at a burnout comp is going to see it under more load longer than any drag engine.

Even Ford eventually gave up on the useless pos but hey, Daddy has a goss so it will be fine. :whistling:

This!!!

Hell I spent 10mins remembering prices to save the girl over 20k but no!

clearly I dont know enough to type an engine combo off the top of my head with prices

4 - none of the above?

And further more, my father has passed away. so no sorry to dissapoint, he isnt paying for anything!!

Oh - and why is men always put down a suggestion that a woman may make? im dead set out to prove that guys aren't the only sex that can actually drive well.

ive been told that the price of it will be around that. I could be wrong, i havent called around and got all of the quotes yet. Im still researching - as i said before. And i also thought a forum was for people putting forth there ideas NOT to be hounded and then to be accused of being a drug dealer or a prostitute? pinch.gif

thats cause it was designed by the guy who designed the oldmobile V8 and we all know they were an awesome performance engine....... :glare::blink::rofl2:

Also why I suggested the Dart 9.2" block, has cleveland Mains sizes and deck height but the oil and cooling system is based on the Windsor

    • I replaced the whole clutch line with the chase bays braided hose, I think it removes that loop, is it the short hose that comes immediately off the slave or is there a drawing in the manual to find what you’re referring to? It was just re-bled when I upgraded to the nismo slave, old slave worked fine but I thought that might help, didn’t change a thing. It’s like the first half of the pedal is pushing air and then when it finally actuates the master the friction zone is tiny. Makes it practically impossible to launch the car
    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
