hey sau,

Currently got my starter motor out due to a clutch install i recently did gearbox is back on. Noticed two of the freeze/welsh plugs are rusted/corroded just need some specifications for the two on the side of the block under the intake plenum. I can see three from where i look, the middle one is fine but the outer two need replacing. Just need the diameter/size of them and what sort of sealant is needed. I was told locktite 504 is reccomended but not too sure just want some first hand opinions. The car is a 96' R33 gts25t series II

Thankyou and best regards chris

i just did mine - which ones are you talking about? the ones directly under? they are 22mm. im not sure what the larger ones are.

locktite is recommended but i didnt use any, i was just worried that if it ever 'wears' from the block expanding and contracting it will allow the welch plugs to start moving and pop off.

30mm brother, checked through some older threads the ones under the plenum which are the larger ones on either side.

I just used some gasket goo hope it hold considering its heat prone

ok, then what should you do if there corroded and crumble when you tap them out.

if you didnt read my previous post i replaced it i was just trying to find a quick answer not a smart ass remark.

cheers!

Hi.

Perhaps you should use a thing called a tape measure to measure it yourself. You know i get immense satisfaction using my brain and where possible doing things myself.

unfortunately using a tape measure is no use to you. it will show 21.XXmm which will confuse some into thinking it is an imperial size. thats not using your brain, is it mate? i wonder what kind of satisfaction you would get from using the wrong size welch plug.

if the ones in there are metal then use a magnet, if they're brass you'll have to get most of it out using your fingers. if it starts to break apart as you're hitting it out, get a flat-head screw driver and hammer around the edge, they arent usually the first place that corrode and it should stay together if you try to get it out that way.

yeah the plugs were brass all i did was simply tap the outer edge like you said, i put a hole in them enough for a flat headed screwdriver to fit in to wedge them out  worked like a charm yesterday but might have to remove my starter motor again and re-tap one in

best regards and thanks for your help chris
