Hey guys

I got a 32 GTR where i have to pull the motor down for an inspection and thought i'd do couple things to it whilst apart

I've only just bought this one and my last GTR was a Silver 32 around 5 years ago so been away from scene for a while

What i'm looking for is a reasonably solid long motor without going to the extremes

I was thinking off the top of my head an R33 GTR crank, forged rods/pistons and set of nice cams but i know there's much more to take into consideration when it comes to these motors so i thought i'd ask you guys what type of motor you would build if you were me

I want to keep car a twin turbo so won't have any Trust T88's or anything hanging off it but more likely something along lines of Trust TD05's or similar, 100mm front mount cooler and HKS Hi Power exhaust

Mainly using car as weekend cruiser but would like to take to track one day just to have some fun in so your opinions on what i should build will be much appreciated and will go to good use :)

standard build then

33 crank

factory rods/decent rod bolts

factory cams

whatever piston you want, talk to your builder

n1 oil/water pumps

a bit of a tidy up of the head, oil restrictors etc.

good bearings, assembly, new head studs, manifold studs and all that type of thing. Decent prepping of the block (grout filled and so on) etc etc

700-800cc injectors

nismo AFM's

Turbo wise, if you want brilliant response, Garrett -7s/-9s. Otherwise if you want a bit more top end with a loss in the response area, garrett -5s. Forget Trust turbos, they will not perform as well as the Garrett items.

You will need at LEAST a 3.5" exhaust and a 4" CAT as a minimum requirement.

All that is going to set you back around the 10-14k marker drive in/out.

Pretty standard build, very bullet-proof and well proven to hold 380-400rwkw as long as it's bolted together well and tuned accordingly.

After quick bit of research i'm assuming you are referring to the GT2860R-5 turbos right?

Are these the biggest turbos you can run if running twins?

I see these have been used in motors running 400kw+ - How fast would that get these things running over quarter?

Sit in a car with -5's. Unless you're going extreme with displacement, cams, etc etc, you wouldn't want much larger than -5 unless you're really really serious. -5's generally come on after 4k revs on most setups.

You'll make well a ton of power with the setup Nismoid said. And have something that's at least a bit streetable.

Not the biggest, as stated - however for 2.6l, they are as big as you would realistically go.

The larger "-10" are supremely laggy on a 2.6l, suffer from surge issues and so on. Basically not a very good choice and you need a very expensive motor build to make them viable.

So as i said, -5 or -9/-7

-5 / 380rwkw

-9/-7 / 330rwkw

All of those turbos will put you into the 10's if you can drive. -7/-9 will just snip a 10, a -5 will put you well into them.

A R32 GTR can do 11.5-11.4 on stock turbo's as it is, so there is no reason the above isn't possible.

There is plenty of info/build information on these turbos and which ones you want etc.

Best advice - get into a car with each type of turbo, there is bound to be someone in your state. Then see for yourself which you like best.

I mean then you also need to factor in other things like clutch.

If you are racing, and with -5s - then there is a fair chance you will bust a gearbox as well (strip 3rd is common) as 380rwkw is a fair bit for the ole factory box. Same for diff, you could potentially bust one.

So it's not just a motor you need to worry about, there are many $1,000's in "hidden" costs you wont think of.

All the above said - it's pretty well covered and you'd do yourself a big favour to actually use the search function.

Reading, reading, reading and then some more reading thumbsup.gif

Looks like i've stumbled across some awesome internal goodies by off chance, all brand new in box never used or opened

Waiting to here back about this tonight

HKS rotating assembly (not sure if stroker or not)

GReddy or HKS camshafts (he couldn't remember which ones were there)

GReddy intake plenum

and oil pump of some description

Ohh i can see nice build coming banana.gif

EDIT

On another note the said car that this engine is coming from arrived today

ID BE KEEPING IT SIMPLE.

also stick to a list.

new r33/34crank or get your old one grub screwed and linished. (crank collar if early 32)

the eagle rod/arias piston combo works well

give the exhaust ports a touch up on the short side radius head service aswell.

supertech valve springs and tomie pon cams.

n1 oil pump and ross balancer

port matched stock ex manifolds with -5's. and oil restrictors, tomie dump pipes (cast ones)

nismo oil/air seperator kit.

and a full nitto gasket kit. tomie head oil restrictor.

rb20 oil filter boss assembly and aftermarket oil cooler kit (trust or hks)

1000cc injectors (14mm o ring type) with matching rail.

sump baffel at a minimum or a hi octane fabricated/baffeled sump

probs go a nistune with z32 afms's(cost and knock control features) or a map sensor based ecu.

all that should see a very relable 330-400kw (16-25psi)
