This is the cleanest build on the whole forum. Every time I see your build Nick I want an R31...

Cant wait to see this monster finished! Its going to be awesome :D

Thanks mate :)

on the road yet nic?

Wiring guy has been making pretty good progress but unfortunately tore a ligament in his foot last week. The car is quite literally ready to drive other than some wiring and catch cans which I'll do once running to avoid another trip on the tow truck. What he has done so far looks pretty good though.

Electrical battery isolator replacing the mechanical switch

Deutsch connectors everywhere

Unfortunately didn't get a photo of the engine loom before it went in but it's rather nice!

Hey just out of curiosity mate, what clearance does the Ross trigger kit say to spec the sensing gap between tooth and sensor? 0.040" or thereabouts? Do they just supply shims or something to pack the sensor down or up to get the proper clearance so it gets a good reading?

The instructions recommend between 1 and 2mm (roughly 0.04-0.08"), they supply a few extra washers to adjust the distance. There isn't any means to adjust the cam trigger that I can see but we did measure it to make sure. Are you guys using the same hall effect sensor?

Edited by DCIEVE

If it uses Honeywell 1GT101 DC units then yes we are. We aim for 0.040" as that seems to be the ideal point for accurate reading.

Sooooo when will this thing be rolling under its own power?

Exactly my thoughts.

Took me a couple weeks to read all 10 pages, but it was well worth it.

Very nice mate.

This thread and build is just crazy and pure inspiration :D one quick question dude what is the thread pitch and size of the hose end that goe sin the block for the heater matrix feed? youve used a earls type fitting and this is exactly what i would like to do but i cant find the size anywhere lol

Thanks mate. The rear fitting is 3/4" BSPT (same as the turbo drain) whereas the front had to be tapped 1/2" BSPP (can't recall if I used a parallel or tapered thread fitting though). Credit for this info to r33_racer, a very knowledgeable fellow!

I'll have to update this thread soon..

thankyou very much, and as i said before it has motivated me to keep on doing mine lol, i presume that thread size will be the same on a rb20 / 25 / 26 as i have the rb25 in my s13

Glad I could help... motivation is tough to maintain, especially after a few years in the build.

So I've been keeping pretty busy on this thing, mainly acting like a TA to lumpy (my wiring guy) who casually suggests a couple things I should do/change/improve (in addition to plugging away at the body loom) each time he comes by. Given his full time job is supporting a number of local race cars I try to listen as much as possible... but it does mean the job keeps growing.
Anyway I'll bring this up to date over a couple of posts in the next few days.
After much procrastination I settled on an air oil separator and catch can configuration, started out like this
3CFA0AEE-A9FD-477E-BC7B-35830081AAB0_zps
And after a day with Brad Stacy I had these
5054DE13-2B07-422B-BE56-1CB7255E6EB7_zps
Made some new switch panels and had some stickers made
D7A04A28-1DC5-4E7A-B12B-AD13183B12F4_zps
Relay bases and breakers mounted up. This will sit behind the glovebox with the ecu/cdi on a separate panel in the foot area with the innovate gear hidden underneath.

Coming along! Busbar has been added here.

Bit of a glimpse into the level of detail lumpy is going to. The connection between the chassis and door.

External isolator button, we're building a cartek style isolator system minus the massive price tag.

And Martin from Unzipped Composites has been making me number of bit's and pieces over the past couple of weeks. Have to say great service and a top bloke to boot.

Lumpy knows his stuff.. Very switched on fella. I haven't spoken to him in years now. He is a great bloke! You are lucky to have someone like him local!

But I'm happy you are making some progress mate! Loving it.

Dammit it took me so long to find this thread! Haha. I had forgotten it was a motorsport build, I was sitting in the normal builds section waiting for you to update :glare:

Lovin' the plug in the signature by the way Nick ;) Thanks mate  Glad those bits came out well. Going to look good when I finish off this cooling panel. Looking at sometime next week I'd say, if I can get my garage warm enough for the resin to cure

Thanks Michael :)

who made the stickers mate?

Need some for my build and they look the best by far that ive seen!

These guys made them up for me (http://www.pgc.com.au/), reasonably good service but a $70 minimum charge. I'm sure you could find a similar shop local to you? Otherwise I need a few more made up so welcome to piggy back an order and spread out that minimum charge!

No worries Martin, looking forward to seeing it! In the mean time some more of your handy work below!

    • Don't do it if your gearbox box has already having syncro issues. The short hifter will put a greater load on them. If you must I remember Nismo did a shorter shifter, with the top part being physically shorter and the part that went into the gearbox was the same as stock. In saying that I've had a C's short shifter (I think) in mine for many years, which was given to me as the previous owner was not sympathetic to the gearbox. Thus forwarned I was careful and had to modify my normal changing style. You have to be super accurate with your clutch and shifts
    • Well, after a week of daily driving and having to crawl out between the wheel and the side intrusion bars. I got myself a quick release setup. I went with an NRG short hub and Quick Release with some cute heart cutouts on the pull tabs. Nice and matchy matchy with the rest of the interior accents I have going on.  The only downside is the total stack height even with the short adapter is longer than the old HKB boss kit. Luckily I had some adjustment left on the column so move the wheel away.
    • stock shifter with new bushes, springs and cup will improve it. Gktech do all the bits. The opinion as the years have gone on is the redline is not great in old gearboxes.
    • Hi all   what short shifter do you use on your skykine r34?   my synchronous does have a problem and i was getting huge delay and grinding sound between 2nd and 3rd, did put shockproof red heavy stuff and it is great now/ no issues   would in your view short shifter screw this up?   people seems to suggest/ use cube short shifter and there is standard and premium. Seen review of premium as much better and less play. Thoughts?
    • Yeah, there's a bit of a density and friability difference between pebbles and any of those other things. Silicone will definitely float in oil and so will be mobile enough to move around. Although, again, if it is upstream of the filter it really shouldn't go any further. I would only ever worry about silicone when it is in places downstream of the filter. Upstream of the pickup is a whole 'nother matter. We've all seen what that does. I have seen the most abominable crap settled out in industrial gearboxes, trunnion lube systems and the like, without any sign that any of it has touched anything in the machine. Just chilling in the bottom, waiting for the inevitable operator error that causes the whole machine to need to be dismantled for repairs.
