Wiring guy has been making pretty good progress but unfortunately tore a ligament in his foot last week. The car is quite literally ready to drive other than some wiring and catch cans which I'll do once running to avoid another trip on the tow truck. What he has done so far looks pretty good though.

Hey just out of curiosity mate, what clearance does the Ross trigger kit say to spec the sensing gap between tooth and sensor? 0.040" or thereabouts? Do they just supply shims or something to pack the sensor down or up to get the proper clearance so it gets a good reading?

The instructions recommend between 1 and 2mm (roughly 0.04-0.08"), they supply a few extra washers to adjust the distance. There isn't any means to adjust the cam trigger that I can see but we did measure it to make sure. Are you guys using the same hall effect sensor?

If it uses Honeywell 1GT101 DC units then yes we are. We aim for 0.040" as that seems to be the ideal point for accurate reading.

Sooooo when will this thing be rolling under its own power?

This thread and build is just crazy and pure inspiration :D one quick question dude what is the thread pitch and size of the hose end that goe sin the block for the heater matrix feed? youve used a earls type fitting and this is exactly what i would like to do but i cant find the size anywhere lol

Thanks mate. The rear fitting is 3/4" BSPT (same as the turbo drain) whereas the front had to be tapped 1/2" BSPP (can't recall if I used a parallel or tapered thread fitting though). Credit for this info to r33_racer, a very knowledgeable fellow!

thankyou very much, and as i said before it has motivated me to keep on doing mine lol, i presume that thread size will be the same on a rb20 / 25 / 26 as i have the rb25 in my s13

Glad I could help... motivation is tough to maintain, especially after a few years in the build.

So I've been keeping pretty busy on this thing, mainly acting like a TA to lumpy (my wiring guy) who casually suggests a couple things I should do/change/improve (in addition to plugging away at the body loom) each time he comes by. Given his full time job is supporting a number of local race cars I try to listen as much as possible... but it does mean the job keeps growing.
Anyway I'll bring this up to date over a couple of posts in the next few days.
After much procrastination I settled on an air oil separator and catch can configuration, started out like this

Relay bases and breakers mounted up. This will sit behind the glovebox with the ecu/cdi on a separate panel in the foot area with the innovate gear hidden underneath.

who made the stickers mate?

Need some for my build and they look the best by far that ive seen!

These guys made them up for me (http://www.pgc.com.au/), reasonably good service but a $70 minimum charge. I'm sure you could find a similar shop local to you? Otherwise I need a few more made up so welcome to piggy back an order and spread out that minimum charge!

    • I would try messing with friction modifier to see if it smooths it out.  Just keep adding more until it stops chattering or grabbing quite so much. If you haven't changed the gear oil in a long time you may as well start there too in case that has anything to do with it. You might want to also verify the initial torque is set to the lowest setting too. Requires popping out one of the CV axles first but that's not too bad. Once you're sure the preload is set to the lowest you can try adding an ounce at a time of friction modifier until it feels right to you.
    • It is possibly 55 degrees for the Nismo version. I had a look through the manual and the stocker has a breakaway torque of 2.5 to 3.5kgm. Supposedly the Nismo LSD goes down to 5kgm when worn in but it is pretty grabby even with very little throttle. Worse when cold. So I guess you have three things. 1. Shims. 2 Friction plates 3. Cams Would think shims would be the easiest but Ive no clue how many tenths of a mm shim thickness change equals how many kgm torque. Also not sure if the Nismo friction plates are similar/different to stock or if they are the most of the source of the diff being angry. Think I can write off the Nismo rebuild kit for the standard diff as not being what I want.  
    • Yeah, it was a bit of confusion with me, I rang and asked if they had a boot for a soft top, and then the paint shop when they rang and were asked if it had a hard top on it, which it does, just not a PRHT....LOL Meh, whilst frustrating for all concerned it isn't a war stopper and should be a thing of the past in a week or two In other N/A related news, car is booked in at the end of the month for the cams, springs, retainers, harmonic balancer and retune  I might even pull the lazy arse card and get them to do a full service on it whilst it is there
    • Factory LSD is supposedly a 2 way with a very conservative cam. If you've already tried adding friction modifier to the diff oil and it still locks up too much for your liking you might want to adjust the ramp rate on the cam to be more like OEM instead of reducing initial torque even further. People claim the 8 kgf-m disc kit for the OEM LSD is still very streetable but I've never been able to compare everything side by side on my own.
    • Oh man, at least it sounds they've accepted they stuffed up and not put it back on you...could see some confusion if they asked if it had a hardtop or not, and you've answered truthfully but maybe not answering their real question which is what roof did it have from the factory! Glad your keeping it N/A 2.5
