My brother has one of these turbo's on his r33, and its nothing like whats been mentioned here

his runs only 11psi and is like an animal, it pulls from 3500 to 7000rpm, breaks traction in second too, im guessing it has a large rear housing

Although i dont know about its long term health, it suffers from some bad surging.:whistling:

11psi from 3500rpm is hardly impressive, especially from a turbo which is probably going to hit a wall around 260kw. At such low boost it won't be at the turbos limit, so no wonder it doesn't fall over by 7000rpm - pulls hard is a relative term, 11psi isn't going to deliver what I consider to be "pulls hard" on a stock RB25. Surging at 11psi is particularly unimpressive, you've pretty much managed to make a ill-thought of turbo look even worse in my eyes with your post. My GT3076R pulled PROPER hard from 3500rpm (well, compared to 11psi on a GT28), without surge, on 17psi - many many a good time had with it.

To the OP, nice work - sounds like you're heading towards what is going to be a really really well sorted package... having the GT2876R sound like the only downside to it. Once thats binned, its going to be a proper all around weapon :)

lol, didnt mean to step on peoples toes with that comment

I wasnt meaning to make a comparison between a gt2876 and any gt30's,

For such low boost on this gt2876, its the most fun, aggressive car ive seen, ( not seen many gt30's yet)

If i can get a video of it, itwould paint a better picture.

I cant see how u can safely have we'll say 500hp for less than 7k. Once you introduce 500hp, you cause alot of problems elsewhere, clutch, suspension, brakes to name a few.

EDIT: no point have 1000hp if you cant turn or stop - especially for a road registered car.

Then to also get a turbo, fit and, tune it, run a fuel system, get it to flow and get it all plumbed up, I cant see it happening unless your getting amazing deals from suppliers.

regardless, I do understand that I have spent "more" than needed to reach this figure, but it is a fantastic starting point in terms of a drift car. Its pretty much what I asked for, and in my opinion, its what I got.

Not trolling or having a go at you or anything ok?

but you've only mentioned that you've spent $14k to achieve those power figures and nothing else in terms of suspension, bushing, brakes, etc..

I had a gt3076 with a 0.63 rear, water meth injection, making 315rwkw, and 720nm of torque.

Now that was an animal and pulled hard.

Fish tailed at 100kmph when put back to 3rd gear and the throttle rolled on.

Tyres were brand new 245 khumo KU31s.

This turbo is bad, time to stop flogging a dead horse, lol.

lol i think he gets it, the turbo is shit. hes planning to get a pretty nice one too so it all sounds good and the rest of the setup is well sorted for what he plans to do/

Johnny, for a workshop built setup 14k (parts price in mind) isnt too bad. Im sure hes spent a packet elsewhere. Its a freaking expensive hobby when you pay for NEW parts to be installed by SOMEONE ELSE lol.

OP, can you confirm is that a GT28 Tial rear housing or what? I didnt think they made those..

sure is, straight from tial.

very looking at getting the gtx3076 in the very near future (hopefully)...

Facts:

1)Generally the only time you hear about cropped GT30 based turbos being called GT28s is with the HKS GT2835s , who knows why they did this . My best guess is that they used some of these "GT2835" cartridges in GT28 turbine housings ie for SRs and RB26s . Some of these HKS spec units date back to the early 90's and in those days both TB25 and GT28 turbines were called "GT25xx" ie in GT2510 and GT2530 and GT2540 .

2)What you are calling a GT2876R comes with a GT28 NS111 turbine and a 48 trim 7/7 bladed T04S compressor wheel . It is not the same as the one HKS had in their spec "GT2540" turbos . The 2540 use the same GT28 turbine but its compressor was a 46 trim 6/6 bladed T04E wheel . Neither is really a gun combination but the Garrett marketed one truly is an exercise in stupidity - by Garrett that is . You have to wonder about a marketing dept that advertises turbos like this GT2876R and then tells you its not suitable for virtually anything .

RB20's seem to need something that spins up reasonably early but doesn't choke up too easily on the hot side . I did hear that Garrett may be tooling up to make twin scroll T3 flanged turbine housings for these new GTX2863R and GTX2867R turbos and if they have twin integral wastegates it sounds pretty good for RB20s or even 25s with 2871Rs .

With whats around now GTRSs sound like good things for RB20's . I'd think GT30 based turbos like GT and GTX3076Rs would be a bit laggy for and RB20 unless you ran big revs all the time .

    • The car revs up through the gears much better/faster now, and fuel consumption doesn't really seem to have be affected either on a Hwy cruise, which wasn't expected  The FAB9 intake manifold has been problematic sourcing though, I've contacted Plasmaman to ask about their intake, which you can get different runner lengths spec'd, and, their different options for throttle bodies  The only real physical drawback with the Plasmaman intake is how to connect it to my current OEM style airbox, as FAB9 make a OEM style back half of the airbox to suit the larger diameter throttle body, and all that is required is a 30°bend silicone pipe to mate the throttle body to the airbox Car also goes in for some exhaust work in a week or so to fit the biggest resonator they can fit clearance wise in the front pipe to help remove some of the drone, there isn't alot of realestate under there, a rough guesstimation is it will only be about 3-400mm long and maybe 90-100mm diameter, and with a 60mm exhaust that doesn't leave alot of space for the internal volume of the resonator to do its thing I'm thinking I may need to bin the "high flow" 100 cell cat for something a bit more substantial, yeah, and restrictive, like a 200-400 cell, to help, but, I have ample room for a really large bodied cat to replace the current one which has around a 4" diameter body I may look around in the recycling bins and see if I can find a massive newish cat that was "replaced" with some new full exhaust system that the local exhaust shop in Western Sydney is doing
    • Hahah look at that smile 😂 Just like those ones on IG where they compare the husband in family photos vs husband going fishing lol. I don't think I'll participate this time, clutch isn't in and also the last time I went there were too many numpties on the cruise sessions. Nearly caused a few accidents holding up people and a few guys initiating massive kerb to kerb drifts with heaps of cars right behind them. Not to mention, there were guys on the track session using it as a power cruise session.

    • All Jap Day is coming up again! 13th of July this year. Are you going? Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 6pm. Please let Quang know as well. https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1163155775853542   I still get shit from my wife for this photo because it is the happiest she has ever seen me. And it's not with her, it's in someone else's car.   Quang's EVO is sick, but that rotary wagon flying past was absolutely bonkers.
