Gday. I want to know if a Autech 260RS will handle doing a launch at redline with semi slick tyres. Cars engine and drivetrain are in A1 condition, and very well maintained. Vehicle has traveled 71,000 ks. It also has a $3000 exedy triple plate clutch (or something similar) which gives heaps of bite.

I know no one can say for sure if any particular vehicle will be able to do without breaking. I am mainly wondering if anyone with same/similar vehicle and drive train has done it.

Any comments are appreciated.

Knowing how much hp it makes would help a lot

Good point. Its got a fair few mods. Its estimated by previous owner to have 400bhp when boosted up to 17psi. It supposedly has run as high as 23psi back in Japan before it was imported.

At the moment its only running 7psi at the due to bodgey boost controller. Bhp feels the same as a mates R34 that runs 12psi.

Basically I am just wondering how strong these drivetrains are.

The gearbox is the weakest link for you I'm afraid. At 300rwkw there is no guarantee it will not break but usually it's third gear that goes in those, not 1st so go easy on the 3rd change and it should be ok.

Its basicaly the same drive train as an R33 GTR isn't it ? In which case shouldn't be a problem, limiter launched my R33 GTR countless time with that power and more, on semi's and never broke anything doing that.

now read the dissclaimer !!

there is NO garantees

go for it, it's awesome

Yep, mates R33 GTR popped third. Wasn't even that much power. All depends on how aggressive you are with it.

If you want it to last, I wouldn't be doing 8000rpm launches with semis.

Why would ya lose third from dumping the clutch in first? Or are you saying if I flog it in every gear, that third is the weekest link?

Its exactly the same as a GTR except that its a wagon.

It certainly ain't something I am gunna do everytime I drive the car. I am just curious to try it out!

Ideal RPM I've around is around 5,5-6,500, that's with 350rwkw and semi's also.

Totally depends on the surface, tyre temp etc

8,000rpm is too much, you'll just sit there tyre turning for no real gain with undue stress for that brief second where power is transferred before wheelspin breaks out.

Ensure your wheels are straight too, if they are turned slightly it can lead to you smashing the front stock diff's while the car scrambles to work itself right.

That is a very informative post. Thanks mate!

Does anyone know what a second hand Gearbox and Diff sells for these cars? Incase the worst happens...

Yer. I've only just had the box in and out of it. The workshop said from looking at the car whilst it was up on the hoist, that it looks as though its a pretty tough set up as it came from the factory.

spot on. you can but probably shouldn't unless you are after the impressive noise :P 5.5k is about right for my race car in a race track with semis and that only has 250kw. Little lower on a typical gravelly targa stage

My thoughts exactely. Another GTR owner told me "its something you have to try atleast once..."

Don't be fooled mate, you can strip a gearbox or smash a diff, nobody can tell you when/where it'll happen :)

So its best to do said launch right outside drivetrain mechanics workshop!!! Yeah, I know no one can say where or when it'll break. Just was chasing info on who does it too there cars on SAU.

Plenty of people do for rally/circuit type of stuff.

Drags also, so there is a fair amount that would, its a fun feeling when it shoots outta the hole ;)

Problem is, takes a while to get right lol

That's right but most of them would have stronger drive trains or they'd have a spare gearbox or diff laying in the shed ready for when they break theirs.

If you want do it then do it, just have another gearbox and diff lined up beforehand so there's less hassle if you break anything.

ive launched mine at 8000 a few times at the drags and never had a problem,

run a nismo twin, 400+ kw and os giken box tho.

and to the above, anything under 6500rpm and it was gutless, had no pull

launch at 8000 on my mickey t's and no wheels spin just gripped and went
