Ant was flying. Was happy with my 1.46.7

Next time we'll add some boost. :)

Yeah can't wait to see what it will do with some decent boost and better tyres!

Did Fathom make it down? Was indicating that he would be there lining up some GTRs with his periscope.

You're going down this time Ant :)

LOL sorry Snowy I had to quote it as I know its not going to last :)

For those who don't know (and it isn't going to be many considering this is the motorsport section!) times can be found here:

Paul - the tyres were only juuust newer than the previous set I visited PI with when I set my previous PB of 1:46 on delaminating tyres in Aug. One day I swear I'll visit PI with a new set of semis :)

Can't complain about the day and I was more than wrapped with my new PB of 1:44.47....just wish I could've pipped that race Silvia! As you can see by my in car vid I was quickly running out of rear grip....my rear right is bald but it did make for some interesting Lukie Heights momemts :D

What wasn't so good was the session after this when I went out trying to pip the Sil, tried to carry a bit too much speed around turn 12 and ended up mowing the grass on the exit at close to 200kmh. Car was fine...driver and transponder were a little knocked about :)

I will get some footage up later this week . Considering my car was pinging its head off, unusual amounts of blow by which could be related to the pinging... dropping gearbox fluid and running wrong pressures for most of the days...I am pretty happy with the 1:49.3.

Mixed feelings about missing Sunday. Good because it allowed me to just relax and not worry about the cars problems but a bit disappointed as I would like to have had just two more sessions with the right tyre pressures and my usual rev limit. You know what they say about hindsight but I wish I had of just given it the beans in the last session of Saturday instead of trying to roll along and be smooth, which just isn't my style :)

...and cool photos MacGillaZ ...finally someone took a picture of my bus :)

I was on PI this weekend. went over for a family gathering. id read about roy going soon to PI but didnt realise it was this weekend.

we went and had a go on the goKarts then poped into the pits for a look but no sign of roy or snowman. plenty of tuff looking cars. put the local club days we have to shame.

very keen to bring my car over for one of these but didnt realise it was open to "club level" cars.

also seen about a billion evos driving through Cowes and EMSPEC on the road.

oh also seen the 2 r33 GTRs in the pic above leaving with SAU stickers on them.

Great shots Andrew, time-laps of the cutting is seriously interesting!

I'll post vids up later in the week as well.

Was a good day, though the poor car had water temps above 100 after 2 laps. The HKS intercooler has seen better days I think and is blocking flow.

Good to meet the NSW boys, though only to take about Ksport brakes...then to rush off and get a pit position and get out of the way of the f'ing traffic.

Certainly was a bloody good day - and the more poeple I get to know the better it gets!

Great vid Ant - shows just how much more I have to learn!!! Also interesting to see we use different gears in some corners too - obviously your method works! I short shift into 5th as I enter turn 3 for example and I'm in 4th on the way into turn 2 and only grab 3rd about mid way around... interesting...

And awesome pics MacGillaZ!

Well done on the times guys, especially Ant. Killer mate!

Anyone got shots of the quick Sil?

maybe some here we he updates.

Thanks for the kind comments. Don't necesssarily take my gearing as being the right way to go about it. Chris also uses 4th on the entry to southern loop (turn 2) and then grabs third. Me - I'd prefer to get the change out of the way before tackling the corner. As for turn 3, I am pulling a fair few revs on the exit but its not long before you have to brake for turn 4. Maybe shifting to 5th might be a benifit but then again I'm saving the shift time. Don't forget I'm also running std brakes....I'm not sure that I want to be carring extra speed into that braking zone

And Ant PLEASE add km/hr to the vid!!! I see speeeeed

LOL speeds overrated ;)

Grabbing 3rd before entering southern loop does make sense as grabbing it mid corner does unsettle the car more than it already is at that point... I'll give it a shot :)

I found using 5th through turn 3 gave me 10km/hr more speed but that may be the result of my smaller turbos and power that stops around 7500rpm or a little earlier...

And yeah I'm running bigger Ksport brakes but some of that benefit is lost by also running Federal tyres so I dont think I can brake later than you!

So much to learn - looking forward to getting back there next year!!!

And speed matters dude :)

Sorry been a little quiet since getting back. car is still trying to get fixed for qld on Sunday and next week and had a few further set backs so far. added some further bad luck on the way home with the rear passenger side tire blowing out which happened whilst overtaking a row of slower cars on the Hume. Monday and two new tyres at 300each latter and also replaced the load leveling kit which was the cause that chewed out the tyres in 2000klm so another 740 on top and i still dread what the car is going to cost me to fix.

Was great to meet a few of you and big thanks for all the help and beers. Really good bunch of people in the SAU vic community.

Matt

Lakeside on Sunday? If so I'll swing past for a look and say gday. Only live 10 minutes away from Lakeside.

looks like i am out, can't get it fixed in time to leave and as for my week of motorsport next week it looks like it has gone :( So instead of punting around lakeside and QLD raceway for a few days next week i will be kicking around home.

    • Out here E90s are the cheapest way into a sporty-ish car because everyone knows just how expensive the repairs can get. 8-10k USD for an automatic 335i.
    • Noted. Have noticed BMW are more 'high maintenance' for sure. They've attracted my attention as I think the used car prices seem reasonable vs other options, and the extra quality overall vs a commodore / camry / corolla or similar of the same vintage is appealing, especially the interior, and they are more on the sporty side whereas the others mentioned can be more cruising or economical A-to-B only.
    • Haha yeah I know, this is SAU after all, why are we talking about BMW's of all things!? I hear you on the 'don't have to worry about it' side of things. Having been fortunate enough to be have been able to buy a brand new motorbike or two...never really enjoyed them as much as I'd have liked as you worry so much about where you park it, will it get scratched, stolen, attempted theft, knocked over, etc...and yes dirty. Older less valuable bikes you can just go where you want and park it wherever and not really worry that much in comparison. And who cares if it gets dirty! Never owned a V8, and have had my eyes on VE / VF commodores for years but with their prices climbing so high, the M3 has come into focus more as prices are much closer than I've ever seen...is it a potential contender now?...of course need to factor in the S65 'maintenance' especially and like you said general M car 'tax'. One can dream anyway. But more on the reality front - did read the whole 330i thread as well and was a great read too, both threads enlightening as I've never even driven one of these cars! I do recall 330i didn't seem to have the same amount of issues for almost the same car (turbos and related differences notwithstanding)...perhaps down to getting it earlier in it's life so looked after better than the 335i? Perhaps so as your 130i has been good and quite similar, so finding a car that's been looked after well is the especially-crucial-BMW-first-step.
    • Nice. Dont worry about the time of not running. My current skyline hasn't run since I bought it. About 8 years ago.
    • It's also worth noting that I am heavily and unconditionally biased. I've had a lot of cars including some GTRs a fair while ago. I love my BMW's now a lot. They make no sense a lot of the time and the guys on here remind me regularly that I could get something else that does what I want better and cheaper. If you're going to take on an older BMW it's definitely a commitment. If you bail on it early you'll lose money and also the ability for it to put a smile on your face. Stick with it and it just gets better.  f**k I should get into advertising.
