I bought a "Pro Lift" jack from Repco last week and was gonna buy their pin style stands as well but read this:

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy brand of stands so I don't die while working under the car? Are repco and SCA stuff usually crapola?

Cheers!

I've got that jack, it's pretty nice. I have SCA pin style jack stands and haven't had any issues with them, they feel nice and sturdy.

I'm sure the poor bastards who had their pin style jack stands collapse thought they were nice and sturdy till the car dropped on them. There was a recall from Repco a while back for their home branded pin type jackstands, so personally I would rather put some rims or a lump of wood underneath rather than rely on a dodgy jack stand.

This has been posted last year > and about the death of that poor dude.

Repco also spruiks the use of a forklift type jack for low lip cars. This one is also dangerous, as its load bearing capacity is very poor.

First time I used them I kept the jack in place though not touching anything(as you should do anyway) and shook the car hard and it wouldn't move at all.

Its not so much about the stands falling over its about the pins snapping and the car dropping down like that poor fella who died underneath his 300ZX when that happend.

IMO Get the ones rated higher i.e the 2000kg jack rather then the 1000kg jacks. and if poserble a Australian standed sticker.

In saying that i have brought a few diffrent brands from diffrent places. like k-mart, autobarn and none have never bothered me.

actually it wasn't the pin style ones that had the recall, it was the ones with the ratchet setup where you just lift the lever and they would drop back down. the ratchet mechanism wasn't locking in properly.

AC Hydraulic jacks and stands. The JAck is a low profile one. long reach. high lift.

those stands are beefier than they look in the photos even.

Hey Just wondering where you got these ??

f**k me you guys should get a job in the mining industry.

"someone once got injured when a ratchet type chassis stand failed"

"Oh then we'd better ban all ratchet style chassis stands so it won't happen again"

pats on the back all round for making the world a safer place.

Paranoid much?

sorry havent been back here for a while.

got them from here:

you dont want to know the price of the Jack (ok about $900)

the stands were about $240 a pair. not cheap but most solid bit of gear I have seen.

$240 a pair is fine !

$900 for the Jack... well I'll eat more weetbix for that price.
