Hey guys

Just thought I would throw this up here for personal opinion

I'm just tossing up idea's on whats going on.

The problem that I am getting is that the engine doesn't like timing.

Its running 17 deg advance at 7500rpm. anything more and it wants to ping

Ran BP ultimate on the day. Bad batch of fuel would ping like crap coming onto load.

The problem that I am getting is that it wants to ping top end.

My setup is this:

r33gtst manual

155-160 +-5 across all 6 when warm

580cc high flowed sr na injectors (tested, spray pattern perfect all, all spraying same amount when tested)

Plazmaman Plenum

3" stainless intercooler piping

600X300X100mm intercooler, kls power spirit

bosch 040 in tank pump

splitifre coil packs

standard fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator

3.5 inch turbo back stainless mandrell bent exhaust.

3.5inch cat, 100 cell brand new

6 boost manifold,

Tial 44mm External gate

GT3076R

.60A/R anti surge front, .56 Wheel trim

.82 rear, .84 wheel trim

external gate 4 bolt rear, 5007 3076R

Testing done so far:

Pressure drop of intercooler. .5 of a psi drop from turbo side to inlet plenum

Exhaust pressure is only at 3 psi at ful noise

De-carbonise tops of pistons/cylinder head clean (did f**k all)

Ive got this thing tuned with the aid of Exhaust Gas Temperature senders on each cylinder, they are all on par and off the top of my head should be somewhere around 650 degrees (don't quote me)

Ive got two things that i want to address.

does that dyno sheet look to be about right?

and apart from the heat on the day (35 degree's in the dyno room) would there be any other reason to blame something else apart from heat soak for this problem

One thing to try, get a long piece of pipe, put it between the pod and the turbo and see if you have the problem when you are ingesting room temp air rather than post radiator air.

bit too late as it is off the dyno, i honestly didn;t think it was goign to make that much of a difference,

seeing as cold air intakes only give at best 5kw atw gain.

Just saw you have high flowed injectrors......eeek. Did you work out which cyclinder is pinging? Then I would swap injectors and see if it follows. I have not had a good set of high flowed injectors yet. Can you borrow a set of nismo's?

Also the pod in the engine bay is sucking a lot of hot air prob over 45degrees that day...would kill power. What was the intake manifold temp?

The fact its doing it up top is whats making me think its the charge temps. Be it timing or the CAS I would expect it to be more likely to occur when coming onto power, or if it were electrical and up top I would expect it to be erratic.

This seems more consistent with poor charge temp due to the position of the pod. Dont forget as revs rise under bonnet temps soar as the manifold gets hot and emits heat, and the clutch fan pulls more hot air through the rad which has only one place to go, the big vacuum right besides it.

I'm thinking along the same lines.

Have a look at this dyno sheet of my vehicle, doing consecutive power runs

under bonnet temps would have rose something chronic

would it be enough to still cause that much power loss, we are looking at 70whp there, that is a bit much isn't it?

even at 380whp i thought that this setup would produce more than that ( done when intake temps are low)

Ive got one of those KLS power spirit intercoolers,

They Flow alot, and have quite large fins,

previously i had a really dense intercooler.

got me thinking that in 36 degree's and with my pod sucking in All that hot air the thing wouldn;t really be cooling it in a dyno that has 36 degrees ambient temp

It has been tuned for 11:1 AFR's so some of the power can be found by pulling out some fuel and taking it toward 12:1 or wherever it makes best safe pwoer.

The richest run (10.8) to the leanest run (11.2) on that dyno makes about 45hp difference at 5600 rpm.

The KLS cooler looks like a run of the mill china job. Decent enough for what your doing but hardly the bees knees.

Honestly, chuck it back on the dyno with your pod hanging out of the bonnet rather than under it. Instant answer for that one, yet guaranteed the intake temp on that would be 60 degrees on its own BEFORE its compressed IMO.

checked your fuel filter lately? mine was blocked and was causing mine 2 lean out on dyno aswell. replaced pump first cause it was a bit noisey, but later decided to pull fuel filter off and i couldnt even blow thru it. problem fixed after that. also try a different CAS. mates 32 was making 450rwhp then next run 350 then 370 etc, replaced with a dif CAS and problem solved.

17 degree of timing is a good amount on full load. Perhaps use a timing gun and see what base timing you're running.

On my old car, I found out the base timing was set at 21 degrees, don't ask me why.. so I dragged it back to 15. Even on full load, with a tiny ass turbo @ 1.3bar, I only could dial in 12 degrees on full load, and 14 around red line.

I would personally lean it out a tad, seems quite rich and back 1~2 degrees of timing on load (usually rows 16/17/18)

Pretty sure my car only ran about 17 degrees of timing at 7500rpm. That side of things sounds normal.

376hp @ ~18psi sounds perfectly normal to me for a 3076R.... I'm not sure what your expecting/complaining about.

Thats what I was thinking too, glad I asked... I thought I might have been going mad or something.

I suspect there is no problem, the car is making what you'd expect on that boost, with that fuel, with that turbo :)

my 2L made 374hpatw with 21psi with 17˚ timing at 6800 on bp98. i'd say the figure is about right.

That is an interesting boost line you have there mate...

Where are the rpms on the graph?

And I've never seen a dyno graph with kmp/h on the bottom before lol
