The clutch decided to die recently in my N/A R33 and after trying everything before dropping the gearbox (including some very rough gear changing etc.) the problem turned out to be in the clutch and so it was replaced.

Once the work was done, i wen't for a drive and found that each gear was crunching, and that i no longer had a 4th gear, it feels like it's nearly going in but it just wont click in just that little bit further and then it'll pop out of gear. So i'm putting the problem down to the gear box being screwed after changing gears without the clutch fully engaged.

So i was wondering,

1. is it possible to replace the n/a gearbox with an RB25DET one?

2. what are the differences and what does the swap involve?

3. would i lose any power due to the different ratio's etc.?

Some help would really be appreciated........

Use the search function, its been covered before. Yes you can do the swap. Differences being its a stronger box, but seeing as you have an NA is it running bullshit amounts of power to make the swap worth doing? Losing power probly not seeing as you possibly dont have enough to lose

Replace it with another N/A box, it's simply not worth putting in the turbo box unless you have plans for big power upgrades down the track - talking turbocharging etc.

$1000 for a second hand DE? No way. That's what cheap RB25DET boxes go for. DE can be had for $300/$400.

Also, re-reading your original post, the fact you now have trouble selecting ALL gears...you might have a problem being that your clutch, although new, isn't engaging properly, for whatever reason. Particularly as you can't select 4th at all.

oh ok, that's a fair difference, so if i can get the turbo box for fairly cheap, am i better off puttin that in or should i just replace it with another de or get my current box reco'd?

Yeah well originally i thought the clutch had welded itself so i was driving it really hard, dropping the clutch and smashing gears (4th gear dissapeared during), then after talking to a few mech's and reading a few more posts, realised it was very unlikely this had happened seeing as it's n/a, and near stock. had a look at the clutch turned out a spring had gotten loose and was caught in it, which is whyy i couldnt properly engage/disengage gears or the clutch..
