R32 build!

In 2004 I bought my first import, 1993 r32 gtst m-spec.

It had lowered suspension, gtr front bar (fibreglass), gtr wing, vg30 turbo, eboost, turbo timer, 16inch avs model 6’s and a gtr FMIC.

I kept the car pretty much the same for prolly a year while I was on my P’s.

Car looked like this…..

so from here I found out a bit more about skylines and what can be done with them.

So I pulled out my lowered suspension and bought some height adjustable cusco zero1’s

I also bought new wheels, starcorp impuls 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 I know they are gay!

I also removed the gtr rear wing as I wasn’t a fan of spoilers.

Looked something like this…

post-16535-0-33307000-1297162241_thumb.jpg

so as the car was sitting lower and has wider wheels I got attention from the cops! Which meant a DEFECT! Awesome.

This was my first ever and had no idea what it was LOL.

So I chased up stock suspension and chucked my 16’s back on and booked in for an inspection.

Back to looking like this…

post-16535-0-79438800-1297162289_thumb.jpg

my inspection didn’t go down to well, side indicators weren’t orange enough, bushes worn blah blah blah..

so double defect it was! Even more awesome.

I didn’t know how to do any of this stuff so I got a workshop to fix everything that was listed and went through a second time and passed! YAY!

About a month or so after my visit to regency I was driving to drop my GF off at lacrosse practice when I saw in my rearview mirrow a MASSIVE white cloud.

I freaked! Didn’t know what it was so I googled it on my fone and found my turbo seal was shot..

So I jumped on SAU and sussed out a stock rb20 turbo for the time being.

Got that fitted by a workshop and drove it around like that for a while (rims and coilovers back on). I also bought a bn kit (I know what was I thinking! But I had to do it atleast once!

After a while I was getting bored. Next came more money and mods!!!

I purchased of SAU a apexi ax53b70 p25 turbo, rb26dett power fc , z32 and gtr injectors.

This was the time where I said f**k it time to learn how to do shit myself.

So I tackled the turbo swap!

Was very painful but I got it!

post-16535-0-50751400-1297162314_thumb.jpg

I got the workshop to install my injectors, afm and pfc and tune it. The car was tuned to 18psi and made a nice 220rwkw.

Unfortunately coz of the nice rb20 it was fairly laggy! But was still fun.

Drove it like this for prolly 6-8months then BAM defect AGAIN!

So off it all came!

Got the car cleared from defect after the second inspection.

Once it was cleared I said stuff this its bigger engine time.

I was told to chuck a rb25 into the 32 as it was a pretty simple and effective conversion. I picked up a rb25det s2 and a rb25det gearbox for $2500.

Chucked that in with a set of splitfires, the z32, apexi turbo and the power fc.

Got it all tuned and made a nice 250rwkw @ 15psi!! Man this turbo on the 25 was a billion times better

I sold the gtr core as it had seen better days and replaced it with a cooling pro tube and fin.

post-16535-0-78576600-1297162344_thumb.jpg

Next I sold my starcorps and bought myself a set of lenso D1r’s before they were popular!! 18x9+15 and 18x10+22.

FITTMENT!

Had these on the car for about 2months.

Also removed the gtr front bar as it was cracked due to gutters and stuff so I chucked a stock r32 front bar on! Looked cleaner and I like the stock kit look.

post-16535-0-36200100-1297162374_thumb.jpg

I swapped these rims to a mate for a set of TE37s in 18x8.5+30ish and 18x9.5+30ish. JAP RIMS!

I sold the turbo, power fc, injectors.

Chucked all stock gear on it to try pass it through regency with the 25. This never happened.

From here the car wasn’t used as much of a daily due to cop heat in Adelaide being super gay! So my interests turned elsewhere for a while.

After about 6-8months I finnaly decided to drive the car daily again so I took it to work and back for about 3 weeks where I keep getting too many looks from cops so back off the road!

In the mean time I bought a ke70 rolla with a 4age. Had coilovers. I chucked a ca18det into this and smashed some wheels and drove this for abit.

I took this to Mallala for the first time and had a ball. But once again on my drive to work, BAM defect!

So this took a seat on the front lawn and didn’t drive it again! So I sold it defected as a trackcar!

Since being on Mallala and having cash from the sale of the rolla I decided to get the 32 out there!

I went shopping!!!!!

Brand new Garett gt3076r .82 ext gate

Turbosmart 38mm wastegate

Stock manifold with wastegate port welded onto the merge collector

Nisstune

740cc hiflow stock injectors

z32 afm

oil cooler and relo kit

rb26dett rocker covers with mines cam baffles

post-16535-0-86443300-1297162503_thumb.jpg

I also sold my cusco coilovers a while ago and bought some isc coilovers with dampner adjustment.

Got this all fitted (myself and mates) and got it tuned to a nice 300rwkw @15psi (hub dyno) WOW this was slippery!

Time to take it to the track!

post-16535-0-15337700-1297162532_thumb.jpg

so this track day wasn’t too fun! Smashed piston rings which caused my catch can and engine pay to be full of oil!

So a call to paul @ redRracing to build me a rb25det!

Got my engine back from paul and opened the box and yum! Forged goodness!

post-16535-0-98298100-1297162558_thumb.jpg

from here I bought a plazmaman plenum, highmount manifold and moved the afm to the cooler piping. I also bought a external bosch pump and surge tank to run e85.

Got myself some nice defi bf guages (oil temp, water temp and oil pressure)

I also sold the te37 for some r34gtr wheels painted black!!

post-16535-0-10849400-1297162580_thumb.jpg

the engine was in and running again to off for a e85 tune!

post-16535-0-35450700-1297162636_thumb.jpg

car made 282rwkw on 15psi on e85. Slightly low I power I thought so I asked the tuner a few Q’s. what afr’s is it running (11.5) apparently that’s my problem.

I once again sold rims and bought a set of cst hyper zero1 in 18x9.5 +15 all round and chucked some feddy ss595.

Guard work was done!

post-16535-0-93216900-1297162694_thumb.jpg

got this all fitted and not rubbing and then it was off to another track day with sau-sa!

post-16535-0-41638000-1297162738_thumb.jpg

post-16535-0-11029700-1297162754_thumb.jpg

This track day once again wasn’t the best. I found my turbo to manifold gasket was screwed! My water feed that sits ontop of the turbo was touching the under bonnet lining and caught onfire causing some wires to be burnt. So I called it a day.

Car and engine itself were really strong and performed well!

Which brings us to around now!

I have bought a bride seat, takata harness, craig helps highmount steampipe manifold, synapse 50mm gate new 4inch intake pipe and looking at roll cages!

Car will be getting all these installed ASAP and tuned at willal on a nice 25psi!

post-16535-0-55687700-1297162764_thumb.jpg

HOPEFULLY the car is set and I can start chucking down some lap times and enter more events without cutting my days short!

Ill be out at Mallala on april 11th for sau-sa 3rd track day!

PRETTY excited to see what power it makes and finally enjoy driving it like it should!

Sorry for such a long post but it has been a long, fun, painfull, annoying, enjoyable rollercoaster.

Some days I have wanted to ditch it and some days I have sat there staring at it non stop!

Blood, sweat and tears have gone into this thing and not just mine!

I would like to thank all my mates, family and anyone else who helps along the way and who have put up with me and my car ☺

Stay tuned for more progress!

kinda had a laugh reading this because i know exactly how it feels to go through all the trial and error to only get to the track and have some issues... pretty sure we all do.

looks like a fun car dude and nice wheel choices along the way. all the best with it in the future.

thanks guys!

yeah its very depressing when you think your done then another hurdle, but o well..

i have learnt to do so much to the car, turbo swaps, engine in and out, manifolds, gearbox etc.

heck i even did a gtr turbo swap with mate in my driveway 3 weeks ago!

so hasnt all been bad!

very nice, like what you are doing, I agree that body kit was a bad thing, love the stock look with good offset wheels and thye correct amount of low.

I likle how each time you were defected you would mod the car some more once cleared, lol

i actually have the hyper zeror on my 32 gtr at the moment, same sizes and colour too.

assuming your not registering it again???

car can be rego'd

will be rego'd for all jap day next sunday. just for a sneak burn, but ill prolly get defected again.

if so then its all out track car. but until then its a happy medium.

but yeah i guess u gotta try everything to see what you like and dont like!

but yes i LOVE the CST's..... best rims i have bought and the price i paid went well with it too.. and not many people have them :)

i have also had it mentioned to me that i should turn my oil cooler core around so the inlet/outlet are on top..

whats the thoughts on this?

yes mate. i do beleive that when the core is mounted with the inlet and out let on the bottom then the oil may only be forced across the bottom of the cooler.

but when it mounted with the inlet and outlet at the top the cooler has to fill (gravity obviously makes sure the bottom fills before the top) before any is forced out the outlet. making sure the oil is exposed to the whole cooling core not just part of it.

personally i think there is probably enough oil pressure to fill and flow properly regardless of the way it mounted if u are using an aftermarket oil pump. (which i assume u are since u have a built engine)

yeh got a n1 on atm but i just bought a nitto.

ill be buying some 180deg speedflow fittings tomorrow to mount it the other way and have the hoses running the same way..

pitty 180deg -10 are like $60 each LOL

lol yes they are. cost me $105 for 2x 180deg -10 fittings last week and i need another 4 now i think lol

    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
    • Ye, in terms of bolting up the "Conversion" from a GT to a GTT is effectively "Use GTT parts for everything" Except the subframe itself, because you won't want a HICAS/4WS subframe. Remember your ABS system will be different too, thanks to GT being the S15 3 sensor system, instead of the R34 4 sensor system for wheel speed. I do not know how people get this to work given R34 diffs do not have a provision for an ABS sensor (they are on the tone wheels of the axles). I assume***** people use S15 gear/R34NA forever when they realize this - Or they convert it to a rear diff/axles that are R33 style which I presume has the singular speed sensor on the diff itself, but then you have to wire it all in and...and... and...
    • Foreshadowing was never so easy.
    • The ones in brackets are the first stages of tightening. I usually aim for the middle of the range. They give a range because it's actually not that critical to hit exactly the right bolt tension. Enough is enough, and too much is too much, and the range given is inside that range. Half of the bolts in the suspension are problematic for putting a torque wrench on anyway, so just get done up to mechanic tight  and spanner checked a week later.
