Identifying R32 Gtr Rear Diff

Hi guys I am just starting to go over my r32 gtr and have noticed the rear diff has fins on it is there a way to check if it lsd or not? I spent time researching but cant find it do standard gtr diffs have fins?

They are all LSD in the GTR's

The difference is Vspec or not. Pretty sure fins=Vspec but I could be wrong

You can take the diff out and remove the hat and see inside fairly easily.

if thats the case does that mean I should use lsx90 instead of epx 80?

You should always use LSX90 regardless. LSD oil is always back compatible but non-LSD isn't forward compatible.

Meaning you can use LSD oil in everything, you can't use non-LSD oil in everything

sorry, you are wrong. all 32 GTRs have finned rear diff cover and all are mech 2way LSD (you were right on second part. ). vspec 32 GTRs have the active diff and usually have a plain cover (like normal 33 GTRs have) but some have the finned cover like all the other 32s (no idea how or why). it gets a bit confusing as 33 GTRs are the opposite. standard ones have a plain cover, vspecs have the finned cover.

i have a 32 diff here that has a plain rear cover and no active lsd..

The 4000 or so that I've seen are all as Baron describes above.

Maybe someone's put a 33 not v spec cover on it at some stage?

unsure.. the diff i pulled out of a wrecked stock low K car, then i pulled the diff apart as im using it in my s14 and the backing plate had never been removed before.. quite strange
