Would like to know where the oil level should sit on the factory R33 oil gauge , for a healthy running Rb25et ? Just notice after a oil service the gauge reads up near the top which is where the 8 kg/cm mark is , but after a little use the gauge will drop down to the next mark level which is in between the 8kg/cm & the 4kg/cm . So like the 3/4 mark so to speak ! When i check the oil dipstick the oil is still on the full mark , so the engine hasn't used any oil , but the oil pressure has dropped a little. Is this ok or is it just the oil getting a bit thinner once it has been used a little ? I use Royal Purple 10w-40w. The level will never drop below that 3/4 mark so to speak. Any advice would be much appreciated :thanks:

My guess is you just overfilled it... What was it reading pre oil change?

Could be a faulty gauge also but as I said what was it reading pre oil change...

Mine is about 6 on startup and comes to just below 2 on warm on idle.

SIts around 4'ish when driving 'normally'.

No never overfill it , always put 4.3 litres of oil which takes it just near the full mark. Since owning the car the oil gauge has always been near the 8kg/cm mark in pressure & at normal operating temp would never sit around the 4ish level. Mine always sits around the 6 or above .

I can't remember what the factory kg/cm reading is (I have aftermarket dials that read in psi). But in normal driving it should be around halfway on the dile which is 55psi.

I have been looking at getting after market gauges , which give a more accurate reading. Eg Oil , Temp & knock level. Can't u get a plug in device which reads all of these that plugs into the ecu ? What setup have u got in ur 33 ?

My gauge might be playing up cause the oil level is always reading into the higher area , never sits near the halfway mark at idle !

Sorry I should have clarified. I don't have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, I just have white faced dials in my car and they read in psi instead of kg/cm.

But yeah the factory oil pressure gauge is a bit suss so I take it with a grain of salt.

As far as I am aware, there is nothing that simply plugs in into our cars, you will always have to wire something in. And besides, it isn't so much the gauge itself that is crap, it's the 15+ year old senders.

At idle mine sits on like 25-30psi these days. Sometimes it falls towards zero and scares the shit out of me, but it is just the factory gauge acting up.

But beyond that, the layout of the rest of everything, and the materials (ie the vinyl coverings on dash, armrest, etc) are acceptable, and the patterns on the fabrics are not as blergh as those in the R33. And R33 seats are....quite unattractive. I know it's only small details there, but I reckon the R33 got worse than the 32. But the big blergh is the overall shape of the dash on the R33. It's just has that whole Maxima/Pulsar sort of look to it. Nothing special at all. Generic Nissan sedan. Whereas, at least the R32 dash/binnacle was different. Less a wide expanse of boringly curved plastic. More a "cockpit" sort of look, even if nowhere near to the degree that the A90 Supras got. R34 seats look good on their own, until you realise that they are indistinguishable from the shape and fabric on 70 other Japanese cars. And the foam bolsters on them suffer even worse than the earlier cars. Other than that I don't really have an opinion the rest of the R34 interior. I took the bits of the R34 I wanted (brakes and engine) and added them to the best external appearance Skyline in the modern era (the 32). So nyerr!
    • Can I be your first customer? I would like hard lines done for the fuel system, 8AN up and 8AN back and the underside wire wheeled and coated (brush or sprayed) with that black tar shit.
    • Speak for yourself, I love the R33 interior. 32 is blergh. I like the 34 interior too. Then you start getting much newer in most cars and they all turn back to blergh. 馃槢

Considering stock power (or at least stock components) will do ~360whp on 98 by simply turning up the boost on the stock gear on a RB26, that would be where I'd say the cutoff point for "sinking endless amounts of money into the engine" Cause to even do this reliably you'd probably need to replace all the bits anyway cause they're old, starting your sinking journey anyway. I reckon the least painful way is rebuilding the engine to make 50hp over stock lol. The 'plan your ownership around a rebuild' was a common saying 15 years ago.
