Hi Everyone,

just thought the best place to start and ask some questions was on here.

Should probably start with some history.

First off i had a r31 ti skyline which was a dream to drive and had about 100k on the clock.

Sold it last year and bought a vy series II s commodore which i dont mind as a car but it just feels like driving a boat sometimes

i am not to clued on to car stuff at all. Found this car on carsales can people give me some thoughts/anything else that can enlighten me about this car: Also i would like to mod it a bit

i do realize its an auto but i am stuck in traffic quite a bit during the day so don't really want to go manual

Cheers Guys :)

yeah based on your intended purpose then an auto is a rational decision and will probably suit you well.

Also auto's are cheaper. So that is your addedd bonus.

Though I wouldnt overly mod it tho as you wont recoup much of the mod costs when you go to sell because, again, very few people want an auto skyline. especially a modded one...

make sure you think about that before selling.

maybe get an auto and put some decent rims on it and sound sytem which you can then transfer to a manual skyline down the track if that eventuates...

sounds like some good advice

i already have a sound system to transfer from my current car so there is that part sorted

i was thinking just like the stage 1 mods to get it to about 200rwk or so nothing to extreme

I have owned an R34 GTT auto before and had to sell it.

It was ok, but whenever I actually wanted to drive it, the auto was a let down.

And selling an auto skyline is a mission. There are better markets for automatic cruisers than GTT's/skylines, both as a buyer and seller.

If ur just going to drive to work in it I see no point. Just get a more comfortable cruiser that's better on fuel. Skylines are woeful on petrol...

And if u ever took it for a good drive it would be shit because it's auto... /shrug my 2c

HMMMMM

this has given me a bit to think about now.

hard to make any choices at the moment.

i only originally wanted a skyline cause they look sexy are faster and dont feel like driving my boat vy which i dont really like much.

i could spend money on the vy but i don't really see the point don't think i could get it to fast its only an s and not a ss so .....

Have you consider Supra or Chaser? I've driven R34 Auto and it was boring and didn't feel like a sport car :(

And you know.... you can always pre-roll your smokes before you hop in the car

At least go for a test drive, try both automatic and manual before you make any decision.

dont underestimate what full stage one mods for over 200rwkw will cost.... (+fitting and tuning)

FMIC, turbo back exhaust, boost controller, prob coilpacks, computer, tune...

-and again, nobody wants that kind of fruit on an auto. you will not recoup the costs...

do the trendy thing and get a daily (which you already have) and then a skyline that is purpose built for those weekend smiles.

all very good thoughts

r31's are awesome chuck a turbo on it and a few things and gg :D

i have looked at Chasers before but doesnt seem there alot around and therefore expensive to fix

at the moment i will stick with my vy and see what happens i guess :)

    • Convert to dual filament bulb   FWIW, it will look odd - I dare say a bit dumb as it looks like your flasher relay has shit the bed.
    • If the RB29 box in the car is a push clutch, then yes, you will need to deal with the pull clutch on the turbo box. You either buy a pull clutch and don't use the old one, or you do the things needed to convert the turbo box's clutch arrangement over to push. Which is a bit of a f**karound. "Making" a custom tailshaft is the easy part. But you will need to source the front clip yoke - the bit that goes into the output of the gearbox. These are not as easy to find. They are out there, but they don't grow on trees the way that they used to.
    • Indicator bulbs are way too bright to use as a "corner marker" (we call them parking lights too). Sure. Go ahead and do it. But realise that you wil need to come up with all your own wiring to do it, as no-one will have a standard howto worked out for Skylines. It's just a matter of abandoning everything that Nissan have done and starting from scratch. You'd probably be better off retrofitting tailght/brakelight globe bases into the front indicator housings and using the taillight circuit for your corner marker and the brake light as the indicator. You'd need to work out how to kill the marker circuit while the indicator is flashing, otherwise it won't flash on-off, just bright-less bright.
    • Hi. A little bit of an update. It maybe(hope not) looks like i would need a new tranny(it would be "maybe" a cheaper or better option anyway) So i need some info. I know i need a different propshaft(i can make custom one) LSD is not a problem cuz the engine will be still(for now) N/A RB20. So if i buy RB25DET NEO tranny...is there something else i need? I read something about push/pull type but i do not know if i need to "change" something or i can just plug n play onto my engine a go? Thanks for the advice
    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
