Currently in the market for a GTR and have come across this car

Does anyone know anything about the car I should be aware of as a buyer? pros and cons?

I'm currently searching through for a "what to lookout for" thread aswell

Hello

I can't seem to get the link to work, without knowing the car R32 GTR's are now hitting 22 years old, for a "what to lookout for thread" for them it would say to buy a car with the expectation of it needing repairs early on after buying. When I first got into the Skyline scene there were still a lot of nice fresh R32 gtr's running around, now they generally tend to look well worn.

good luck

Fixed your link: http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=9860548

Read this: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/35129-im-buying-a-skyline-what-should-i-look-for/

Get an inspection.

Get a dyno ($80 will tell you if it's running at a higher boost, what's its kilwasps are, if it's running lean/rich, etc. etc.)

Go to a place like Unigroup Engineering, the tuners/whatever there will often know problems with the car just by looking at / hearing it.

Check the entire car for rust, parts falling apart, etc.

Take it for a drive, listen to the start up; does it take a little long? Does it SOUND healthy?

Do lights etc. dim/flicker?

Give it a hard push, don't be scared to give it a go. You're genuine about buying it, you deserve to see what it's like.

Push it high, feel for any misses / lack of power.

Come back to this thread with your findings and thoughts.

Edit: oh, and check the radio. Take a CD or aux cable/ipod just in case :)

Test drive wont tell you much unless you have driven a good conditioned one before, or you know pretty well how that model should sound/behave/feel like ect....you really need something to compare it to unless you have already had experience with the model.

All a test drive will tell you is if the car is the right one for you and that it is in working order...

Ask Yavus at Unigroup if he does Pre-purchase inspections or atleast get him to test it and give it a look over as what skittlez said

EDIT: Rego was changed last August, find out why. Seems like current owner may have had the car for only 6 months, unless he changed them in preparation for sale...

Rego and ctp expires in August. It has a section 87 import aproval and engineering report number CIN3600 ( I assume all the mods are enginered properly)

It looks pretty good to me, Still make sure you have the cash ready for a rebuild even if it checks out, Mine had perfect compression ect ect but soon after I bought it I took it to a dragday and it spun a big end, It was simply worn out.

93 r32's have the r33 gtst crank in them i think. they dont have the oil pump problem that the others do - but they will still send all of the oil into the head. some guys have gotten away with filling 500-700ml over the fill line on the dip stick but this is just a band-aid fix.

also he says its got minor paint imperfections and to be expected of a 20yr old car - the paint looks new. i'd be looking for obvious damage. check for welding around the struts front and rear, inside the guards, in the boot, condition of radiator support as well as the chassis itself.

Might check out this one too

CYACUZ lol, will get a reputable tuner to do a full inpection

Just thought someone on here may have already known the history of the car.

Plates are changed recently so someone may know the car but doesn't recognise it, or if they are a true enthusiast and knows people on the forum, I doubt people would bring up the faults it may have so as to protect "one of their own" as opposed to a new commer like your self. (no offence but you have to consider the context and bias ect...)

But I agree, it does look decent for it's age, but that is only from the pics...

    • I like it when the counter chick leads you out the back into the racks and says "have a grub around in here and see if you can find what you need. I'll be back in a few minutes. Just left me in front of a massive motorised shelving system and 2-3 million fasteners, so I could find a peculiar SS shoulder bolt with cap head. Gotta love country towns.
    • I used this https://osgiken.com.au/product/os-giken-os-250r-lsd-gear-oil-80w250-1-litre/   shut my nismo 1.5 pro up by heaps…. Not silent though. Gives the car character and personality. It ain’t a carolla. If you want silent, put a quaife in it.
    • It's about the same time for me from Bunnings, or the Fasteners. My big push away from takeaway food, and gluten in general keeps me away from the Bunnings Snags too! Weather up here, I've been out for two walks today in the beautiful sunshine. Had a few little drizzles, and some wind, that honestly, a tin of beans and I could compete on how harsh she blows Thankfully, being this bit inland, we're not getting anything much really. Will probably pick up a bit more when/if Cyclone Alfie decides to come ashore. A few areas in the GC though, and south into NSW are really getting smashed though! Right now, I'm just annoyed Alfie hasn't hit, as I'm not allowed to crack into the BBQ foods like the bacon and eggs until the Cyclone hits "In case we lose power"...
    • I love fastener joints, the price difference between them and joints like Bunnings or Super Cheap is amazing, and they either have exactly what you want, or they can get it to quick They have even given me some for free when I only needed a couple of specific size In saying this, I have paid premium for fasteners from Bunnings if they have the sizes I need, but only for convenience really, as my local is only 10 minutes away, the Sushi joint near them is also a consideration  How's the weather Matt? Stay safe mate
    • Wideband is worth setting up if only for tuning purposes. I would not mess with the ignition system unless there's a misfire. HKS crank trigger is popular out here for the relatively easily sourced Denso crank sensor, not a bad idea to install as well regardless of power level on a standalone. Boost leak test is worth thinking about. Oil pressure sensor tied to a fuel cut isn't a bad idea either. Getting the tune figured out is a good idea. Without putting eyes on it and getting under it there's no way for us to tell you exactly what it needs but most likely you're down to the last 10% that will make a big, big difference in how happy you are with the car.
