Anyone Else Struggle With The Practicality Of Owning A Gtr?

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to see other's opinion on owning a GTR. Whenever I own one, I seem to see that for me, they just are not practical. But when I dont have one, I seem to talk myself into why its Ok. Seems pretty dumb I know, but I have owned my R32 GTR, probably my 5th GTR and without a doubt, the best, but still seem to find myself saying, I need a completely different car.

I purchased this car because of the amazing build quality and reliability it had, as I was looking to use it as a daily driver and every now and then take it to the track, but I dont have time, nor want to track such a good car.

Is this a normal mindset of a GTR owner or am I just crazy????

Ha yes I think this is the normal mindset of a GTR owner! I wouldn't say you are not crazy, more that near every other GTR owner is as crazy as you are.

They are not very practical day to day. As soon as you need to carry something - say a set of rims you have no choice but to stick some in the passenger seats.

I decided that there was no way I was ever going to sell my GTR, so I have made sure I have a good place to store it and I have a sh!tbox utility to drive as a daily. It's the best feeling being able to leave your daily wherever you want and not have to worry what happens to it. It has four doors, can tow the GTR and a tray for carting parts around.

Although - and this is where the crazy comes in - now my car is going to be so nice once finished... I am already pondering an R34 GTR rolling shell to build up for track / rally bashing. I don't think it will ever end.

What do you mean not practical?

I cannot find a reason ever NOT to need 350rwkw of RB26 fun.

My brakes are ridiculously noisy (DS3000's), my tyres are noisy (semi's), 7.5lts of oil takes 10-15mins to warm up & the exhaust is perhaps a bit louder than it should be.

Do i care? Fk no. I knew what i was getting into!

I get in there, everytime and i love it. Same for my GTS-R. No issues or complaints, i get out with a smile everytime even if its just been putting around the street.

Yeh you guys suck so bad, I know exactly what you mean!!

I know Im Crazy, but these cars are just soooo easy to fall in love with. I tell you right now, its either love for life or cold the sphincter of the universe for me!!

So much like a crack addiction, not that I have had one!!!:)

WTF its the most practical choice when talking super performance for a reasonable price... the 33 takes 4 adults comfortably which can't be said for many modern sports coupes... power windows, air con etc

only complaint I had was the super hard Teins... so I had them rebuilt with saner spring rates and now its perfect... yes everyone in a 10 block radius can hear me put my foot down and fuel consumption is poor but other than that its got no real issues... I don't have to drive very far to work and parking in a secure garage is free, I imagine if I had to sit for ages in peak hour traffic everyday I might reconsider

I take it shopping or whatever, leave it in carparks... nobody even bats an eyelid... if it does get dinged or whatever its a Nissan so repairing it is cheap... go price up what it costs to maintain or repair a performance Euro car... even a newer model Ford or Holden are expensive... have a look at the prices to repair anything on a Porsche and you'll have a stroke

I bought KU36 almost 2 years ago for $1100... that's for 18/275 all round and they're a great tyre and still got plenty of meat... price up a set of replacement tyres on a new Audi or BMW, ridiculous!

GTR everyday FTW

yeah my mates are mostly aussie but they all seem to have azn gf's and they fit nicely in the back lol

seriously though 33's have the most room in the back of all skylines, I've had 6ft mates in the backseats with no complaints

I reckon I could run a mid 11 quarter mile with 4 dudes in the car, in comfort... not many other cars you can do that in for the same price

Lol r33 barge, sure it can fit loads of things in but its huge and looks like a whale ... :-P

2 cars for the win, Corona = daily. 4doors and decent boot good on petrol .... GTR = weekender when I don't have to park it at the shops ect ect

also 2 cars helps with running costs.

I've recently just been handed the choice either the gtr or the missus....bit the bullet and chose the missus, she finally cracked the shits seeing a grand a week go into the car... but for practicality i wouldnt go past a skyline got 3 of them all over 350 rwkw and daily drivers...

only owned my R34 for month and a bit now, but it is very loud and suspension is shocking and breaks are loud too

so hardly i call practical....

thank god it only a weekend toy and have my trusty corolla for daily duties

PS - suspension being replaced next week and looking in to adding mid muffler to quieten her down, should stop my complaints a bit

GTR daily for the win.

Sure there are better cruising cars with softer suspension to get to work in, but then again do you really want to trade that for your GTR? Hopping in the car in the morning driving down the street with a smile on your face  sorry, but a corolla wont do that for me. I couldn't justify spending 2k a year on insurance and another 500 on rego just for a

Sunday drive, not to mention the service costs of a GTR

Once I walked out to the car and some kid (like 8 years old?) was walking along with his father telling him how much he wants a GTR and touched the badge as he walked past :D

In Japan, about 25 years ago, the engineering arm of Nissan brings into the boardroom, a brand spanking new RB26DETT and says, "What do you want to do with this boss?"

Steering and suspension arm does the same with their ATTESSA & HICAS and ask, "What shall we do with this boss?"

Boss says, "Let's make a street car with race car componentry/engine!"

And a legend was born.

Now who wants to look at a legend > buy a model of a legend > test drive a legend > has to own a legend > feels compelled to experience a legend ? ? ?

nuffsaid

Obv, having back surgery a few years back doesnt help either!! Thats pretty irritating most days for me, so hence I have a love hate relationship with the GTR:(

Having the pleasure of driving such a car is all I need in the morning to put me in a good mood, the full boost onto the freeway blasting past $400,00 sports cars that have a crack only to see my smile in the rear mirror getting further and further away into the distance, sure it doesn't carry D-Max front quarters in the back let alone the boot, but it happily takes 4 18 Inch TE37's, 285 Tyres, a slab of beer and the shopping home.

Love it..
