Tyres For R34 Gtr Stock Rims

Hey guys, just wanted some advice.

I have an '01 R34 GTR (non-vspec) running the standard 18 x 9.0" GTR rims on stock suspension and bodywork. At the moment they have 245/40/18s on them.

I wanted to get Michelin Pilot PS2 - 255 ones (fit 9") but was wondering whether to go with 40 or 35 profile. The 35 would give better handling at the cost of ride quality I assume, but is also a smaller diameter tyre. Does that mean it would adversely affect acceleration and top speed (more revs needed for the same speed)?

What do people recommend?

well the smaller diameter tyre will assist acceleration at the expense of top speed. so as you guessed you'd need more rpm for the same speed but the car should accelerate a bit faster. to be honest you'd be hard pressed to notice much difference.

there is not much between them. if it were me I'd get whichever is a few bucks cheaper out of the 40 or 35 profile. but if they are the same price I'd probably go with the 40 profile. 255/40 is still a pretty low profile tyre and is a good size for your wheels.

I'd personally go a 265 or 275/35/18(Also based on what we've done for customers over the years).

Have a look around as 265 tends to be cheaper than 255 as it is more popular in the performance tyres.

Hmmm yeah but 265 or 275 on a 9" would be a bit bulgy wouldn't it? The ideal rim width for those would be 9.5" yeah?

My stockies have 275 35 continentals and they are just right, they don't bulge out.

Cool, might get the 265/35/18s then. Same price as the 255s. The 275s are more expensive.
