Being an experienced destryer of pistons, 6 in 2 separate incidents, and big end bearings, I would suggest that you have both problems. Standard boost can still cause piston failure if you get a dirty load of fuel, as I did. I have actually gone through $20 in 30km once due to poor fuel quality and it was Optimax. Not long after I killed 4 pistons on standard boost, although both turbo compressor seal and pistons died at the same time on a really hot day. The other time I was racing a porsche turbo and using IC water spray on the stock cooler. Was right under his wing so getting no airflow and heard 2 clear detonations. Result was 2 pistons hairline fractured. A couple of days later I had # 3 big end bearing fail.

In my latest rebuild I used Arias forgies from Rocket Industries $1300 delivered overnight and ACL race bearings from RB30 Main and SR20 Big end with GTR rods x rayed, full balance, lighten flywheel, O ring block, crank grind, straighten, clean out and x ray, full block clean out and bored to 1.0mm OS, blocked an oil gallery to reduce oil to the head (same as GTR spec), RB30 oil seals for the cams and oil pump and rear main. Took the block and parts to a good V8 engine shop (Duggans Balancing Reservior) and it cost 1200. Averything else was my own work in the garage including Hybrid monster intercooler. PFC to go in soon.

Anyway I know which way I would go, but they are available anyway, only did 20,000km at 11psi but would need an x ray ($20-30) to be certain of integrity.
