so WTF is an MA09ERT? I have one downstairs?

well Duncan my friend that motor code describes homosexuality at it's finest...

MA - March - favourite month of the homos as they get to recover from februarys mardi gras poundings..

09 - is actually 0.9 in reference to the faggy capacity of their fagmobile motors

ERT - Erection Riding Time - Describes their favourite past time..

and you have one downstairs you say? :)

You are most probably correct in saying this. CA18DET motors are Nissan's strongest rated factory motor horsepower-wise. Basically, out of any performance Nissan motor, they can produce the most horsepower without being re-built, somewhere around the 600rwhp figure, and part of this is due to fact that the CA18DET is a cast-iron block, while the SR20DET is an alloy block like that of the RB-series.

LOL I will give you 50 bucks if you can get a stock Ca18 to hold 600rwhp for a week.

:laugh:

The RB30ET is based on the RB20ET as seen in some HR31 sedans and wagons. Obviously the 3 litre engine makes more sense for the export market as we have more long Freeways and the like and less tax and shit on higher displacement engines. If you look at the RB30ET though it is basically an RB30E with lower compression and the bolt on gear from the 20ET.

CA20's were fitted to S2 Blueys and weren't that good in stock form (I don't think they have a lot of potential either)

R31 Pintaras as well.

D = double overhead camshaft

E = Electronic FUEL INJECTION (not ignition!)

T = Turbocharged

The number is displacement rounded to the first 2 digits.

The letter prefix simply refers to the family of engines. Ignore it, and what you think it stands for, Nissan engineers probably got a 5 year old to point to 2 letters in the alphabet and went with it for good luck. Insert a myriad of other explanations for it, we aren't going to resolve what has been debated for years within the confines of this thread. In the end, who cares?

Was there anything JDM that used the RB30ET? If not I'd say it was completely Holden's doing. They did buy the rights to the RB30 from Nissan AFAWK.

T actually stands for factory turbocharger.

RB30ET was all holden AFAIK. wasn't the camshaft in the vl RB30 designed by holden as well?

Tommy kaira made a 30DET but that's about it.

and using nissans amazing engine identification system(excluding R and S), Its called FJ20DET :P

don't forget the ca18i, the most awesome engine ever produced by nissan. So awesome it doesn't follow the naming convention or need the twin plug stupidity of the ca20. It's bottom end is factory rates to 600ps but Nissan didn't want to unleash such an engine on the unsuspecting public so limited the power to 80ps with it's sohc rocker snapping awesome sauce head.

I'll see your CA18I and raise you a CA18S.

LOL I will give you 50 bucks if you can get a stock Ca18 to hold 600rwhp for a week.

EFI up here in QLD has had a 550 rwhp stock bottom end ca up and running for years and years, they slapped a 42r or some such thing on it for lols, bashed 30 psi through it, and have been unable to kill it yet.

Fkn useless for anything other than making 500 + rwhp on a dyno though!

+1

The VQ motor Im running seems to be a strong fighter.

VQ25DET, factory unopened motor, throwing more than 300kw at all fours..

from my understanding the rb30e was based on the rb20e

holden were going to release the 202 in the VL but the emision laws changed at the last second, holden then spoke to nissan australia and together they designed the motor based on the rb20e, and for marketing reasons, holden went with the mx7 gear box, and turbo, where nissan went with the n/a'd options and rb20 gearbox

toyota engine codes confuse the shit out of me though

nissan;

RB26DET R - ? ~ B - ? ~ 2.6 litre Dual ~ OHC T - turbo

2JZ-GTE - WTF? isnt this a 3 litre? its almost like someone was like "what do we call this?" smash the keyboard "that"

JZ = engine code, 2 = 2nd generation of that motor, G = wide angle valve DOHC, T = turbo, E = electronic fuel ejection.

Afaik holden didn't help design the RB30E nor did Nissan Australia design it originally. Afaik it was a design from Nissan Japan and possibly not necessarily based on RB20E as they may have been designed at the same time.

Keen to hear anyone's input on this.

    • I've been quietly following this thread for ages, but this one got me. Since my ADHD diagnosis (and associated learnings and prescription) I'm way less inclined to wade into forum yarns when there are better things to do with my time, as half the time I'd end up in some kind of forum debate even if that wasn't my intention. I've not lost the ADHD "superpowers", just am a lot better at directing my hyperfocus into slightly more constructive things, but haven't stopped quietly lurking in here in my spare time.
    • Stripped the tank down and gave it a good scrub. It came up really good! Not sure if I'll just put it back in like that or give it a blackening treatment (such as Bowdens The Black Box). That might give it a matte look so might just run it as is.
    • @MBS206 Ha ha, yeah ADHD is a daily battle to not get drawn in to doing things you want to do that you know you shouldn't do!  Every single time I walk into my shed I end up doing something I started the day having zero intention of doing! I keep mentioning the 1 step forward, 3 steps back scenario and I'm tipping people that are blessed with ADHD (yes, blessed) are the worst at that!
    • We import a lot of cars from Japan. I'd say that approximately 20% of our traffic is imported JDM cars (mainly consumer cars like the Mazda Demio, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Suzuki Swift, etc.). We also import a lot from the UK, but this has decreased after Brexit. Apart from the consumer vehicles, two of the larger, well-known dealerships frequently import iconic '80s/'90s JDM cars. I haven't heard of anyone importing from Australia, and they are not advertised (unlike Japanese ones), despite a lot of Maltese migrating to Australia in the '50s and '60s.
