Skyline Too Low?

Hi everybody, I'm thinking of purchasing a nonturbo R34 25GT skyline coupe, but most of the ones that I have driven kept touching the speedbump or scraping the front when I exit the driveway, does anybody know if stock skylines would still have such an issue? And is there also a way around it? What is the average ride height of skylines?

Any help appreciated, thanks!

That really depends on what the suspension has had done to it (lowered springs, coilovers), and what type of kit the car has fitted. My car is reasonably low, and scraped everywhere when it had the Jun kit on it, however with the stock kit back in place I've not touched anything yet.

Thee is a certain set of skill you require to drive a sports car though, which are lower than average.

The car is most likely lowered, stock skylines with stock suspension (from my experience) dont have any trouble going over speed humps or in and out of most driveways. My car is lowered and i dont have any issues with most speed humps however i do avoid as many drive ways as i can because ill end up scraping my front bumper or side skirts if I'm not extra careful driving out. Best way to avoid scraping is dont enter driveways you know your cars is to low for if you must then make sure you enter and exit the drive way on an angle to avoid scraping where possible.

Lowering a the car also lowers it's center of gravity which in turn improves handling in most cases with upgraded suspension it can also help reduce the vehicles body roll while cornering.

Legal limit is 100mm (10cm) i believe easiest way to check is grab a soda can there normally 12cms and go around the car and see if the can fits.

Great forum, been looking around for an r33 or r34 but the cars on carsales are all claiming to be under 100000kms but that's quite impossible as some are older than 15 years, it's really sad they discontinued the Nissan skylines, they keep getting more older and older

The best thing you can do is find a Skyline thats been well cared for - look for evidence. Service records, condition, how clean the car is presented can all tell you a story about the owner. If you are buying privately, and get the chance have a look at where the car is kept.

There isn't anything wrong with a few kays (as you said, they are 15+ years old now). My GTS-T has an indicated 158kms on it, and I'd suggest looking at the numbers THATS been wound back too. The thing is, I bought it off a mate (who is also from here). I know how he drives (like my nan), know the mods (very few) and know its been looked after and serviced. It still pulls hard, and has good even compression.

I'm guessing you need a non turbo for licencing purposes? They enjoy a bit of a inflated market, and from what I've seen pretty good resales.

There is a thread on buying them somewhere - find it and have a read.

I've a stock height R33 with stock front bar & I've no trouble going over any speed humps or drive ways yet.

It clears them no problem just like the Toyota White Goods (Corolla & Camry) my parents drive.

As to ways around it, either drive really careful (enter all speed humps/driveways at an angle) or get some stock suspension put back on.

      It only looks tidy, as most of the stuff that was on the whole back wall, is now in the trailer to go to the tip, or has been shoved in my 2.2x2.4m "Spare parts room", and now I can't get to anything in there Ha ha ha I could definitely do with a bit more space, but I'd just end up with your problems I'm going to enclose the car port beside the garage, and move a lot of stuff into it I think. OR... It will be setup as a fabrication area, and the main garage will have parts storage in it. I'm not sure yet... Need some pictures of that big shed you've got with the bikes and Skyline in

      No. I think it's gone. 😭 I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.

      Can't say I've had a bad experience with one on my car, then again it only gets washed once or twice a year... The wheels on the other hand, get a good spray often due to my shitty dusty pads.

      @MBS206 thats pretty neat and tidy to me!  I'll get a photo of mine when I'm out there next. It might require multiple photos to understand the scale of the atrocities though... In total I have 4 sheds of varying sizes and layouts. Main shed is 14x8, second shed is 3x8, third shed is 11x2.5, fourth shed is around 6x4.  All are pretty much full.   The main goal of my cleaning tsunami is to make the main shed predominantly car and motorbikes only. Second shed is my metal fab room (2 x bench grinders, drill press, bench belt sander, metal band saw, scrap metal storage and some of my garden tools.  3rd shed is more bigger garden stuff, storage for engine crane, jack stands, concrete grinder, concrete mixer, air compressor lives there, and it now has two 2mx2m pallet racking shelves with itemised boxes holding building stuff, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, etc, etc.  The 4th shed is Ryobi electric ride on mower, mini boom sprayer, ancient Kubota tractor, more garden stuff!  I have got a lot of shit....  Then there's the pool house (8mx4m) and the pool pump shed (4mx4m).  I built all of the sheds over the 11 years we've been here.  The main shed was a Ranbuild kit, the rest are all custom made to fit the areas available. Building the main shed taught me a LOT as I had no idea about building anything prior to that!  I've still got one more in me. It will be my man cave which I poured the extra concrete for way back when I poured the concrete for the main shed. The idea is the Skyline will be a centre piece of the main cave once (if...) it's finished.  I told my now 14 year old son yesterday that I will 100% drive him to his year 10 formal in 2 years. Still a long way off but at least I now have a date to work towards! 🤣
