Alex, what good advice is it? Dont go there? Cos im way ahead of u if its that?

Mattr: the place starts with T

The only reason i went there is cos i have a unichip and they are the only place that can tune them. I think i should reiterate to those that might b confused. I was charged 550 to set a boost controller and cam gear. Both wer previouslt installed. I thought it would of cost a max of 200 and take about 1-2 hrs.

So obviouslt the whole encounter is a bad experience for me. There are two forum members that i know of that have been to them. Me and steve and both of us were ripped off.

For all the money i have no spent on this farken unichip ecu, it would have turned out cheaper if i just got a powerfc and a competent tuner :) This is the worst thing...

Do i work my ass off at work and uni so that some c unt can just rip me off. Mate i dont care anymore, cos i know a HEAP of people, and i know none of them will go near them now.

Thats too bad Enricco. I thought they seemed pretty dodgy previously already. Btw, what are you doing sending your car so far away from NE area? $450 i might pay if someone like Croydon Racing in Sydney did it but a place like that? Ive seen old garages that look more pro.

Yeh the person who was tuning also did that. And he had a lot of thing to say about some other tuners.

Guys, when he told me that iridiums are shit, is this true, or is that another rip off thing. My car HAD greddy iriduim plugs in excellent cond. They replaced them with platniums, as they are the "best" and will make more power.

I thought iridiums are the absolute best when it comes to modified turbo cars? And i left them there :) I should of kept them just in case....

I am pretty damn sure that Matt had his tuned at RPM then. When Tim owned RPM.

I remember Matt going through the drama's of trying to squeeze just that little bit more out of it and hitting a brick wall up over 220rwkw due to the AFM.

yes that is correct about hittin a brick wall.

That is why this is so painful as i eventually planned on gettin a bigger turbo, so would need a power fc, but i thought that tthe unchip would b sufficient until then.

anyway if i just bought the powerfc it would of worked out heaps better and cheaper :)

sorry to hear about your experiences Dean .... as you know they did an ok job on my car, but yes they were expensive, yes they went a day over time, and yes - my tune is VERY conservative and he won't tune it any harder than 11:1 (it even dips down to 10:1 at some stages of the dyno).

The good news is ****** and the lads at ******* are hopefully gonna be able to tune Unichips soon .... I am hoping really soon, as I just got my Z32 afm, which requires a whole retune - and I don't want to take it back the the 'T' place! (Blanked out names 'cos I don't think it's a done deal yet). The good news is Dean, with the tune you have, you motor is absolutely unbreakable, cos it is tuned so soft (if it's anything like mine). Small comfort I know, but at least in the long run it won't blow up in your face like lots of RB25's around the place have been in recent times. :)

What head office - each installer is a type of contractor ... but I guess it couldn't hurt to tell APS your plight.

Yeah mate, a Z32 afm is no worries at all .... except funnily enough the bloke that tunes our Unichips 'doesn't know how' to install a Z32 afm in an S15, and suggested I take it to Tilbrooks to fit - roflmao :)

Hmmm... Sorry to hear of your problems Dean :( It's a huge pain in the arse when things like that happen.

As you guys have already mentioned I "did" have a Unichip, and it did indeed hit a brick wall @ ~220rwkw. Apart from the 'T' workshop the only other Unichip authorised dealer in SA is over 4-5 hours away.

Tim & the RPM guys couldn't do anything with the Unichip (due to them not being authorised) so the only things we could do was play with fuel pressure via my Malpassi.

At the time not one single Unichip authorised dealer could confirm if a Z32 AFM would work with my Unichip/stock ECU combo (I rang most of them too! VIC, WA, NSW, QLD etc...) In the end Tim made me a deal on the LT12 Microtech that was to good to refuse ;) I'm bloody glad I took that option too!

I have never used workshop 'T' so I can't comment on their work ethic, but I was not confident in letting them attempt to tune my Unichip hence it was the final LT12 deal sealer.

Andy,

Are you sure the Z32 will work with the Unichip intercepting/modifying the OEM ECU signals? Not saying it isn't possible but I couldn't find anyone who had a clue about it a few yrs back when I wanted to do the same. Even APS couldn't give me an answer.

Dean, at the end of the day, your plugs should not have been changes without your say so.

they did this to me, and it really pissed me off too, as there was no mention before hand that they may need to do it. I had back to back dynos with coppers (after they put in platinums, at a different dyno place) and the coppers performed better, so IMHO, its just a ploy to get a few dollars out of you.

if it is standard practice, they should tell you before hand, if they want to throw $100 plugs in, how hard is it to telephone and let you know up front?

I asked them why it was so much, they said because it took alot longer than they thought - that it took 6 hours on the dyno to tune it as the power fc hand controller is so slow. They said that when they quoted $300 it was a rough guide - what can you do? I wanted to pick up my car, so I had to pay them. If someone thinks its fair to charge nearly $600 for a job quoted at $300, there is no point trying to reason with them.

I had heard good things about them. That was why I decided to give them a go. I think most workshops have certain strengths. The safest way to go is to make sure the shop has plenty of experience with the type of car you are tuning, and that others who have taken their car there are happy.

a quote for 300 and then charge 600?? whats the farkin point of quoting you. they should of just said ... yeah we'll just say its 300 but we're really going to charge you twice as much later on. it seems to me that if they dont' notice that their charging twice as much everytime then theres something wrong in their heads?? i say just spread the word ... they be out of business soon ... as a small business owner now, it makes me disgusted to think there are these sorts of business owners around.
