Hey Guys and Girls

Wanna ask what you think of would be best street tires for your buck? I been searching but still don't know much about tires.

Not doing track at all at this stage but would like to find a street tire that has great grip in the dry, wet and long life.

Btw in from perth and look for tires for my GTR R32.

A better question might be Which are the Best street tyres to entrust my life to ?

This might be a $100 more per tyre than getting the best dollar value for a tyre..

How much are you not preprard to pay for a tyre if it stops 2m earlier in the dry and 6km in the wet or sideslips at 10km higher speed?

I found the Potenza very good but at 28000km usage I made a trade off foer wear and tear and picked a longer wearing cheaper tyre for replacement but at the time I was cash flow short.

Having done that I think I made a mistake as I now keep wondering how bad or good is this tyre. Its up near the top , but small differeces at high speed can be fatal.

AD08 is basically the best street tyre you can get, coincidentally, got a set going for cheap, perfect for a GTR :D

otherwise, Kumho Ku36 i found to be great on my prev GTT - needs a bit of heat to work best, but great after that, quite cheap too

there's a good tyre sticky thread in the suspension/tyre section that covers a lot of tried brands/models

The best tyre for you will probably be different to the best tyre for others on here as well. No use you getting 'the best' if its a soft compound and will be dead in a few months because you do stacks of km's. You can spend a fortune on tyres but what good is that if you can't afford to drive the car?

Maybe come up with a budget and ask for recommendations. I was happy with my federal ss595 for a good but affordable street tyre, and the ku31 on my rx7 seem ok as well.

Pick a tyre that suits your budget and recognise its limitations - drive within those limitations and road conditions and you'll be fine.

My budget is around the 150-200 buks a tyre. Btw i rarely drive my car, and i only do about 10,000km or less a year.

Work to much ='(

I'm a big fan of the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs. Work very well.

Edit: They may be expensive in Australia, they're fairly reasonably priced in Canada.

The Kumho KU36's I was told are great.

For now I have Kumho KU21 at the front and KU31's at the rears and are fine on street.

But I am thinking of going KU31's at the front for next tyre change.

OP, you're asking for something that is cheap, has great grip in all conditions and a long life...where's the magic lamp! It's like that adage about cars: cheap, reliable and fast - pick two, because you just won't get all three.

KU31 is a very good compromise, just don't expect miracles from them :)

I've been pretty happy so far with my Toyo Proxes 4 that I've had on my 33 gtst for the last couple of months. 235/45/17 cost me $199 a tyre. However I have the Toyo Proxes T1R on my ST185 GT4 that are a far superior tyre for about 30 more a tyre, but not sure if they make them any more? (was told they don't)

i have toyo proxe 4s on my 32 gtr and they go great, havent had the wet road handleing yet as it hasnt been raining, got 245/40/18 all round think i paid under 300 a corner. as everyone would know in a car like this mate there is no comprimise for safety so save up another $50 bucks or more a corner and get something that you will be able to have fun with and will be safe.

Advan AD08 255/40/R17 x4 $1200 inc shipping from the US @ www.tirerack.com

or if you want something cheaper but rated just as good go the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs i think they were around $200 cheaper

highly recommended the Advan AD08 run them on my gtr and they are a great tyre

Hey guys, I got new tires and they are awesome. Was going to get T1R but instead I went for proxes 4.

Only got them for $185 each, is that a good price?

^ ^ ^ Quite a good street tyre at a good price Amon.

They will go a bit mushy under track/high heat conditions - but on the street, they'll last quite a long time at cooler temps.

595RSR are a good tyre for the price, i run them on my car for street and track work... havnt let me down

agreed i bought a set for the front and they are a great tyre got them for 200each too which was even better

      If doing that ^, I'd take the idle up valve out and plug the hole in the pump.

      You can try capping the power steering idle up valve at both ends if it's old. The valve and the intake manifold. That is something that is known to fail in Toyotas with age and it will suck power steering fluid into the intake and burn it in the engine which can cause issues. Then bleed it again with engine off first. Do like 30+ lock to lock turns with the front wheels off the ground.

      Hi Brent, I am wondering if you ever worked this out? I have upgraded this unit to a newer one and everything works bar the reverse camera, so i really want to know what plugs are what so I can patch the camera through. many thanks in advance Mike

      Update:   smoke test all pipes no issues cleaned reservoir   fluid put in ( dexron 3 atf)   steering turn side to side and could hearing  gurgling from steering rack which I assumed was air lock, opened one of the steering rack connections and could see loads of air getting pushed out( not sure if you meant to do that / whether it will re introduce air into system)   anyways, loads of side to side sound was gone. Turned car on, pump was slightly ( barely) wining so turned side to side few more turns and fluid level when car on was almost none in resorvoir which I guess is normal if car is one. Turned car of and fluid was gushing out. Almost 200-300cc was pushed out. Repeated engine off side to side followed  by engine on and same result       going mad now. It seems system is either sucking air in whilst on or there is tons of air which I am not giving it enough time to bleed. Thoughts?   would it work like brake caliper if I open steering rack copper pipes and let gravity pull all air out?   or maybe have a restriction somewhere? What is the red circled item, could that be blocked? It i
