I like Noels idea...time to find out what a few well known officers drive to and from work. Just a shame the ones most likely to hand out EPA notices are probably well connected with the EPA folk :(

It's just another type of letter writing campaign...

fair enough, of course I accept there is safe riders out there... but considering how dangerous it is there should be more of them

you have to accept being generalised into larger groups by people who don't know enough about your subculture to differentiate... its par for the course... you only need worry about how you act, can't control the actions of others

this incident is another matter IMO... I'm sure someone explained to the cop the cruise was an officially sanctioned by SAU etc... the fact he wasn't listening when people were trying to explain their situation, in a friendly manner I might add, just means he was lazy and rude... fair enough he pulled them over, I don't mind being pulled over and having a chat... pulling people over before they do something wrong might just be enough to get them to pull their head in... this whole issue of then receiving an EPA in the mail a week later doesn't solve anything, other than increase resentment and hostility

and its just weaksauce

True, I'll slide a generlisation in here then: Cops are wankers :P lol

so basically driving in a group of cars is illegal? last time i checked we lived in Australia not Iran.

A public road is a public road, it doesn't matter where or when i drive, i am perfectly allowed to drive on it. Police cant "tell you to go home", they have no authority over where i can drive. Unfortunately they can just start writing out bullshit defects and send out EPAs if you annoy them.

Indeed I know it will mostly fall on deaf ears as the community has been so perplexed by the media sensationalism that is "HOONS" over the past 18 months.

The "longer" version which is apparently making it to print is a bit better and more detailed.

I had to chop around 300 words out.

The site said it had a "1200" character limit, but it wasn't 1200 LOL. MS Word said i was down to around 800 IIRC.

Although that said, i do read a bit of "letters to editor" in some papers in response to articles written.

Even if you do not agree neccesarily, a well worded reply at leasts get people thinking.

No doubt the paper will also make the Officer aware of the reply. Even if he reads it, that is enough for me.

It would appear he might not be as open minded as other officers that we all know, but you cannot do much about that.

I don't expect him to change his view or suddenly step back and go "Well hey, perhaps I did go a step too far". I mean given the media, his management, the Gov't etc etc - he is forced to be over zealous from the start almost as if it were a brainwashing.

I know at the end of the day SAU-Vic is doing the right thing most of the time in the Import world when you compare to a lot of other groups/individuals around the place that really are giving us a bad name.

A few things.

1. The paper doesn't really care. I know they should but they dont. It is the result of a time short, harassed journalist being offered a "story" on a plate by the police PR.

2. The paper wont make anyone aware of anything. They aren't a public service, they are just another busted arse company.

3. If you did want to do something that may have a chance of working you would need to contact the journo, get in his/her head (basically provide a story too as he/she has a job to do). Then maybe (maybe) next time they will be a little better informed when the coppers spout their bullsht.

Not having a go at Nismoid in this. It is just that nearly everyone over estimates how much attention the public pay to what is written in any one paper. I mean how many articles can you remember reading in last weeks/weekends rag? Probably none. I know I cant.

If you want an example of this sort of rubbish (ie Police PR misrepresenting car clubs etc & what goes on) then have a look at what happened to the Antilag mob over in WA.

hahahahaha

you know, I have to admit there has been times when I'm 'that wanker in a Skyline'... nobody is perfect and we all have our bad days

seriously though when did journalism die... what was once a noble profession and the cornerstone of democracy is now a JOKE... hang your heads in shame journos, your a disgrace

care to shed some light? im curious now. i thought WA was alot more lenient than VIC

The abridged version is something like this (allegedly, apparently, to the best of my knowledge)

A cruise was mentioned and/or partly organised on the site. It wasnt an official cruise or anything like it.

A donut eating cop trawling the net picked up on it.

Someone from a hardware story apparently complained when a number of cars parked up in their car park.

Yellow stickers were handed out, people unrelated to the event booked for speeding, fines issued etc.

The bit that annoyed the &*$^ out of everyone is the police PR machine got stuck in & the TV news made a huge thing out of it. As ever facts were wrong and/or distorted.

Members of the forum had to go on radio to try & clear things up.

All up poor policing, poor journalism and a prety unhappy result for all concerned.

The problem being 5 minutes after it has happened no one remembers other than those directly affected.

So WA may be more lenient in some ways (mostly EPA stuff because they are seemingly incapable of getting their act together) but I can assure you the defect notice system is near on permanently broken & the hoon hype is just as bad.

never mind found some info. you might need to register to see the thread or just go to the antilag homepage and scroll down the recent news stuff till you get to "as seen on channel 7"

Not up here they arent Birds. The epa boys hate the traffic cops as much as we do. They keep sending cars in for bullshit tests and make unneccasary work for them.

They would love nothing better than to start rogering a few of the jack boot brigade.

Anti-Lag didnt do themselves any favours, have you seen some of the S h it that they record and put on those crap motive dvds.

If you dont want any heat dont start a fire, simple..

Don't think Skyline owners are the only ones getting the raw end of th deal.

4WD owners get the same crap and more. I've got a modified 4WD and go offroad - but you take to the road with the same fear that you will be pulled over and get done for something because the officer feels like it.

In addition to the same road-based BS that happens to 4wd'ers - the BS extends to the offroad tracks. You'll get defected OFFROAD on a 4WD track. To make matters worse, the government/greenies are also closing down the tracks claiming 'a return to nature' or 'excessive erosion of fire trails'.

The facts I've seen show that the parks resources are managing more space with less resource - so it's easier to close the tracks. In actual fact, the 4WD clubs actually help clear the tracks of fallen trees and do rubbish collection.

The reality is the do-gooders have no concept of 'being reasonable'. The dedicated greenies never go in the bush - yet the tracks get closed down, in the same vein as us Skyline owners - we get called 'hoons' and get targeted on the roads (they can't really close the roads down...).

It seems the authorities/pollies tend to to be led by popularity and follow what buys most votes....

It was the first thing I did :)

on the home from work on wednesday i had to wait at a green light for some dickhead in a VT who decided to do a burnout accross an intersection and nearly take out a van. i just hate it when you see people like that get away with endangering so many ppls lives when we cant even go for a drive...

i reckon the police just pick on us as skylines are stereo typed because of a minority of dickheads.

we are exploited by the media as skylines are so popular and are also easily distinguished so when a cop on the news or a journo writes that a group of skylines, every one else probably thinks a bunch of white or grey, dirty and molested 33s doing burnouts.

it sucks cos probably 90% of the time is dirty executive commodore auto pieces of crap doing single peggas down busy streets

    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in
    • Let's just fix the problem by f**king the rest of the gearbox.
    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
