OK I've bought both these kits... (yes don't laugh I didn't plan to either).

Now my dillema is this... I have an R32 GTS (soon to be turbo-ified). I need to do a 4 stud to 5 stud conversion. I need larger rims. I'm also getting some of the paintwork and stuff done on an insurance claim.

Here are my options:

Kit 1 - Vertex kit

v32_f.jpg

v32_r.jpg

Pros:

I can use my current rims (which are multistud) till I'm ready to upgrade to 18" rims. (easier on finances)

I have the kit sitting in my backyard atm ready to go on.

Looks aggressive, and low.

Cons:

Every tom dick n harry will soon have a copy of it and it won't be as unique.

Kit 2 - BN Sports Widebody kit

bn32_f.jpg

bn32_r.jpg

Pros:

Looks farken tough and then some

Cons:

Its sitting in my mates backyard in japan. Will take at least 1.5 months to get here by the next container he packs. The insurance company keeps wanting me to get it done asap.

I'll need wider rims than what i've got to use on em could be more expensive than regular rims. I could use my r4egular rims, but then it'd look really wierd.

So what do you guys think I should put on? As for me I'm fickle minded and easily bored. I know if I put the widebody kit I'll be happier on the long run, but it means having to wait etc. If I put the vertex kit on it'll be all done in a month or so and I'll be on my merry way, but I'll get bored of it very quickly and want something new.

Either way I'll be selling one of em off :)

yeah i like the 1st one for that reason its aggressive but clean. The widebody would be sweet if it didn't have that really obvious skirt around the bottom.

All my mates tell me to keep the widebody coz they know I'll want more once the vertex is on.

*sigh*

I'd say the first one (vertex), with a GT-R grill fitted to it (as available at UAS for $150, unpainted & unfitted). With a set of Buddy Clubs' :)

What color is your car?

[added]

I like the look of the APEXi N1 fitted to the one with the Vertex kit too; that burnt tip is awesome.

lol well a mate of mine is making copies of both kits (hence why I bought both, he'll reimburse me for em). As for rims I'm under the impression the widebody kit for the R32 GTS only makes it as wide as a GTR + maybe an inch. So i should be able to get away with GTR rims. I found a decent set for about a grand n a bit in japan, they look like Volk's but they're not, available in bronze or silver and pretty lightweight alloy. I'm trying to find more info on how much wider the rims have to be though.

As for GTR Grilles :D I can get em in japan for about 80 bucks :D nice new fibreglass replicas. But i'm not gonna go for the GTR look. I want a unique look, so I think an aftermarket bonnet later down the track after my engine work is done would be the best option.

Right now my main concern is scalability. I have to do this in stages (kit, engine, interior) so I really have to think about this step, coz it starts here.

In other news I bought a genuine R32 GTR car cover today :D so mildew can kiss my (_!_)

the wide body one looks horrible. the panels dont even line up in the publicty shots. Im sure it would be a farkin terrible fit once it finally got here. I would go the first one.

for the turbo upgrade, why dont you get an R33 front cut. You get front brakes and a better engine in the deal.

The BN kit looks impressive, but as Funky says, the big skirt bizness around the bottom is a problem when driving. Plus, you're gonna need some big-ass wheels to make that kit look right... standard GT-R rims will not do it. 9" on the front and 10" on the back at least...

The Vertex is good, a little more subtle. But do you see why Japanese cars look so good? It's because they "overwidth" their wheel everytime. Get that rim right to the very edge of the wheelarch.

I always wondered why 17" and 18" locally produced FR rims in Australia stopped at 7 or 7.5" widths... because thats all that can fit under a Dunnydore...?

hehe word Rezz...word... all hail overwidth :D The set of rims I was looking at were 9" in front ant 9" wide at the back...

As for R33 front cut... i'd love to do it, but unfortunately I'll also need to upgrade ECU to a Power FC (simply coz u can't plug R32 inputs into a stock R33 ECU). I'll need Z32 airflow meters (coz of incompatibilities) same goes for oil filter, fuel filters, wiring looms, hoses etc, its just a major hassle. Wheras a simple RB20DET top with an RB26 bottom is a lot easier and I can remap my standard R32 ECU to work with it.

The wide kit is cool - but the Vertex just looks neat and clean. A lot less haphazard.

I'd take Rezz's suggestion and go the Vertex with some nice wide wheels.

Either way - it's going to be one cool 32 :D

you could always get gtr wheels with spacers.. that should fill up the gap for option 2...

ive seen both these kits before through pics.. and if fitted right i cant see which would be a problem... 50/50 for em,

but how much will your mate be selling copies of them for???(pm me if you have to)

    • Trying to find the plastic under cover for an 04' Forester X. The main under cover that covers most of the front of the vehicle under the engine. This has turned out to be a crazy experience. Normally I can find parts for vehicles, if I have the correct info, no problem. But not this! The Forester is a non-turbo btw. In a Forester parts catalog, for model years 03'-06', it shows part# 56410SA070 as being the correct part. So I go to the local Subaru dealership's website to order it. I type in the part#, hit search and there it is, the under cover. "DOES THIS PART FIT YOUR VEHICLE?" I type in my VIN# and sure enough, "This Part Does Not Fit Your Vehicle. See Similar Parts For Your Vehicle." I click on that and part# 56410SA000 comes up. Looks absolutely nothing like the previous part. Not even close. So I go to a different Subaru dealer website and put in that 2nd part# (56410SA000) and "This Part Has Been Replaced By" 56410SA070, which is the first part I looked up. I thought OK, makes sense. They replaced the strange looking part, with the one I looked up first, so I add it to the cart. "Does This Part Fit Your Vehicle?" I type in my VIN#, and sure enough, "This Part Does Not Fit Your Vehicle." I've basically been doing this with various parts suppliers and dealerships, for the past 4 hours! Does anyone know what the hell is going on?? Thanks in advance!
    • have you rotated the car yet? if so how smooth was it?
    • And finally, I had the driver's side airbox off while adding a long drain hose under the oil can to down near the oil filter. Doesn't look good, it has definitely had an turbo oil seal leak and looks like it has been for a long time.....guess I'll have to get a pair of highflows to put on the shelf It's also worth mentioning it has a really strange clamp between the bottom of the airflow meter (which has a big barb/lip on it) and the intake pipe. I've used the magic of MSPaint to show, basically you have to clip out those 2 steel springs which unlocks the hose from the AFM. I used 2 flat screwdrivers, the spring sort of clips into the unlocked position. Reassembly you just pop them both back flat once the hose is far enough up the AFM that the spring clamp is above the barb. Weird to use but much more convenient once your'e used to it compared to trying to do up a hose clamp under the airbox like on 32 GTR
    • The other thing I started was a fire extinguisher bracket.  As with a few other cars previously (350z, Leaf), I'm going to add a bracket between the navigator seat's front bolts, then mount the extinguisher on that. Unfortunately Nissan (probably the same engineer who did the A/T fluid interwarmer) decided that the front seat brackets would be recessed and uneven so the bracket shape was a bit tricky; I ended up doing 1 part under each seat mount (the large hole is because there is a flange under the seat mount to allow for the carpet thickness)   and then a horizontal part between those 2 No final pic yet as the paint needs to dry, I'll post up once that's done
