What Would You Pay To Rent An R35

I'm thinking of buying a GT-R R35 to rent out to help with brand exposure, whilst renting it out on a daily basis.

What do you think a fair cost would be? I'd want it covered in promotional vinyl if that changes things.

Also, wondering if there be any way to ensure it isn't abused.

Going rate for a car of that value, for a casual rent, would be about $1000/day.

You could get a Cobb AccessPort, flash in a "safe" tune, limit the RPM, for example.

yeah that's about right. I was going to say around $700-$800 a day. as above only way to protect it would be to maybe figure out a way to lock VDC to on (maybe remove or shield the switch?). maybe some kind of data logger with clear rules about car usage?

IMO: This sorta thing is primarily appealing to people travelling from overseas who want to rent something they'll enjoy.

When I went across to San Diego during Christmas last year I paid $350US/day to rent out an E92 M3 which is roughly in the same sorta price range as the R35 (I actually did look for one but they didn't have em). This price included everything apart from fuel (only used about $20/day anyway) so insurance and 100miles/day (160km) were included in that price. Not only that - he didnt charge me any extra just because I was young (I'd just turned 20), he didn't give me any restrictions on it, he even told me that the US police couldn't give me any speeding fines so I could have my fun (and before anyone asks, this wasnt some family friend or weird benefit I was getting), he also told me that I didn't just have any specific time to return it on the return date - as long as it was within business hours. I did have to give him a $5000 bond tho (but i figured that was fair enough...)

To be honest this is the standard I would expect of a prestige/exotic car rental agency, having the M3 was one of the highlights of my USA trip. I'm aware that an M3/R35 costs almost double over here than it does in the states - but I think you should consider letting your customers enjoy the same benefits I did....

F430 for 24 hours (limited to 250km max) $820 inc GST

their allot more dollars new than a GTR... horses for courses...

the thing is if you price too high no one will rent it, hence causing a big burning hole in your pocket...

"Ferrari drive days" were having this issue hence the cheap rentals mid last year...

they said their better off renting it daily for $700/800 then once a week at $1500 like their competitors...

I was in LA last year and I did find an R35 for hire and they wanted $800 a day. Pretty steep considering the car was only 80k to buy. And you can get fined for speeding in the states as I got done a couple of months ago and have the papers to prove it. I wanted to get them frames as it was amusing at the time.

$ 1,000 a day in Sydney or Melbourne. Check out the excess! What happens if you accidently nudge someone in a carpark? Does that mean you pay 15K! LOL

http://www.sportscar...tal_sydney.html

That is for 1 or 2 days rental, $800 each for more than 5 days, and that is the advertised price. They'd easily take $600 during mid week.

Excess is only a problem if you can not drive a car without damaging it, in which case don't hire it lol.

Also the advertised car doesn't have crappy promotional material all over it (devaluing the price you can get for the car and chance of someone wanting to rent that car when usually someone hires these cars not only for the hell of driving it, but also to be seen and to live a fantasy of what it is like to have others thinking that you own the car) and restricting the functions or power of the car will render the car more undesireable to rent as it isn't the car it is meant to be.

I could not consciously pay a decent rental price for a restricted version of a R35 with promotional advertising sprawled all over it. I doubt anyone would. Although if it were $200 a day or something you would at least have the car advertising for you as it would probably be booked out 7 days a week.

Through www.sportscarrentalsonline.com.au you only have 100km allowance per day as well. If you wanted to drive say to Mac Pass and back from the CBD you'd be looking at an extra $200 bucks for additional kms. Almost all of these rental things seem pretty exhorbitant, maybe it's just me.

Whoppersandwich's E92 M3 deal in the US seemed pretty good though...

if you read the fine print, most rental companies still charge you the excess even if it's not your fault

someone hires these ...... but also to be seen and to live a fantasy of what it is like to have others thinking that you own the car

ding ding ding we have a winner

sorry mate, a stickered up rental GTR isnt going to work

the way it usually works is the driver gets paid

You can get speeding fines, you don't have to pay them. If you chose not to pay, don't return to the USA without expecting to be thrown in gaol (or jail as it may be)

if i was going to rent a car in the US, it'd be a 90's 911 cab with one headlight and never been washed matt paint - forget that fancy vinyl crap

then id be necking birds like Hank Moody

    • As far as I know, Infiniti stopped importing vehicles before 2020, even though they were still selling their stock for at least a year or 2 after that, they were older build years, therefore, you can import a 2020 400R, because you couldn't buy an AuDM 2020 built Q50 RS. As for insurance, you might need to go through one of the enthusiast insurance companies, they tend to insure a lot more grey import models than the mainstream insurers as Duncan mentioned.
    • loved seeing the zenvo on the a1 just after the hatfield tunnel i was the guy in the white van trying to egg you on it sounded awesome and those exhausts glowing red inside insane cheers for the thumbs up tim and tom.
    • So.... when I'm finally getting around to having my power steering leak sorted, now it looks like I've got the same issue most A/T Skylines are having. My A/T light will randomly come on and I'm stuck in 3rd gear until I turn the car off and on again. Only 3 weeks ago I did a complete transmission service: Oil flush + new gasket + new filter. This came out of nowhere!! It wasn't like the car was driven hard. I drove about 3 mins down the road to get fuel and boom!!!  Anyway, I have a few questions and hope you fine people can help me out here. All questions are in red. 1. The solenoids: I was looking at the parts catalogue in Amayama and I could only find the Solenoids as an assembly. https://www.amayama.com/en/part/nissan/319404ax05 I read in another thread that Solenoid A = 31940-4AX02 & Solenoid B = 31940-4AX05 but the Amayama product has only the code of B. Is this the right part? Can anyone who has done the Solenoid changes or seen them confirm if this is the complete set of A & B?   2. Gasket and Filter: I'm not going to try change the solenoids myself because it seems difficult to do in a home garage with just 2 jack stands. I plan to take it to a shop and get it changed. I was also going to buy the transmission sump gasket at the same time so I don't reuse the same gasket. Should I just use the existing gasket as it has only been on the car since OCT 19th? (~3 weeks) Should I be buying a brand-new gasket and a filter? Does this job involve taking the filter out?   Thanks in advance to everyone. It's hard to find a video of someone doing a solenoid change on a R34 so any help you can give answering my remaining questions would make me less stressed.
    • Yea - From what I have seen from the video, the car idles like any R34 lol 50PSI of fuel pressure is hardly super abnormal, the regulator is working because the pressure remains static when the throttle gets revved, i.e pressure remains the same when manifold vaccuum changes. Bigger pumps on stock rails always bumped the pressure in the rail without using an aftermarket regulator to change that. Do you know what your IAC is actually doing? Has there been any data showing the stepper motor % etc? There's no way your idle is actually moving around the way the cluster(s) are indicating. You would hear the difference with the engine RPM flying to 3k and 1k in mere seconds. I'd be checking the wiring to the tacho. What the tacho is telling you and what the engine/ecu is telling you are different things. I assume your ECU doesn't display the spike. So whatever is telling the tacho to be at X rpm is doing something weird. When the going gets insane, you're on the wrong path. You've ruled out plenty of things that are working correctly/aren't the issue. Your idle isn't doing what the tacho is indicating. You have two seperate issues, I don't think they are linked, and the idle seems reasonably okay unless it's stalling which.. well, it hasn't. Troubleshoot the stall if it occurs by figuring out what your IAC is doing vs what it is being told to do.
    • So awesome! I love the RB with the exhaust on display.
