sorry mate, a stickered up rental GTR isnt going to work

I get the point and I agree unfortunately. It could work if the price was REALLY cheap. But then it probably wouldn't be worth the effort.

Maybe a chauffeur service for $100/hour could work. (no branding on the paint)

Could be used for birthday presents, Christmas presents, weddings, school formals, special events etc....

Again, it wouldn't be to make money, it'd be for PR and media releases, word of mouth, social media photo opportunities etc...

I reckon $100,000 spent on that would be better advertising then $100,000 spent on radio or TV advertising.

I think you are clutching at straws to try and justify to yourself why you should buy an R35. There are plenty of cheaper cars out there that you can paint in fluro colors with huge sign writing on them that would draw more attention than another R35 which is exactly what you want for promo purposes.

yep a Smart car for one

even women frantically doing their make-up while running late to work will take a brief look at a stickered up Smart

but with the GTR, you're limiting yourself to teenagers

I already own an R35 so I know how much attention it gets. Hence, I'm trying to think outside the box for where to spend out marketing budget. If done right, $200k on some sort of R35 activity coulde be better word of mouth activity then $200k on radio (which we've tried before)

You guys are right though. Teenage lads are the R35 market. My company's target market is 35+ men and women. Thank you for input, it is very much appreciated. I'll probably drop the idea for now. Might consider again if we come up with a better way to execute.

What'd I do to you man?

i can understand you dont wouldnt want the thing thrashed thru every change and launch. but to limit it completely to stop you from enjoying it defeats the purpose. you'd have to find some way around that problem, GPS tracking etc wouldnt work for many reasons. or the cops would already have ever car rigged with it and making a killing on speeding fines.

i looked into hiring a Fezza, or 911 in Melb to do the great ocean road for our honey moon but,

most of the prestige/sports cars that rent for that sort of money and more have the previously mentioned 100-250km a day limit (lost my business, i like driving). but there are also have age limits of 30+ on some, so your pretty safe there in not getting young wipper snappers who are going to crash it.

you can go over the KM limit, but it cost you umpteen dollars extra per KM, and you obviously have to pay for the fuel then too. it just all becomes to ridiculous.

the way i see it, if you can justify that amount of money + the extra cover for insurance etc etc to hire something like this for only a day or two...chances are you can buy your own :) unless of coarse your overseas for a holiday.

If you are going to make a business out of it, especially for SAU members, you are a lot better off working out group stuff. ie, a bunch of guys get to drive, lowering the per-person price.

I'd also suggest trying to organise track sessions and so on, so people can fang around without risk of crashing on the streets or loosing their licence.

Personally, since you can get like 4 laps or whatever in one of the V8 supercars etc for $300, I'd probably only pay $500 for say an hour cruise in the city, or a couple 15 minute bashes on a track.

Insurance/deposit would probably kill it for most people though, so you'll have to take that into account. I'm only 22 and no way I can afford to loose a 10k deposit even if its only $500 for a go, and I imagine most of the people that couldn't afford $1k+ for a day wouldn't be able to afford the deposit either way.

With regards to targeting 35+yr olds, you need to do a combo or day-event type thing. You won't be able to do it with only 1 GTR though which is a problem. I was thinking, you'd start off with a lunch at some fancy restraunt, then the guys would get to drive the GTRs (perhaps 2 per) up to one of the tracks, where they'd get say 4x15 minute bashes around the track. Then drive back to the city, drop off cars and dinner at some other fancy joint. Plenty of people would be interested in that for $1k, but you'd have to waive the 10k deposit otherwise too much risk for them.

iv been looking at this option to rent a "super car" out for my 25th. and tbh i wouldnt pay $1000 for a car worth only $180k. yes its a popular car and i love GTR's but if you can get something like a GT3 or a lambo for $1100 then i cant see why companies charge similar for the GTR.

between $500-$800 would be the max id pay

you can get the following which would cost more then a GTR to buy but rent for a day:

vantage $1100

audi R8 $1250

M3 $600

911 GT3 $850

dude, of that bunch (i've driven all 4) the GT3 for $850 is the best fun and the best value by far... do it!! you'll have a ball. great 25th splash out for sure.

It's a bit strange, but paying for the use of a car like that (at that price) doesn't sit right for me for some reason :/

I don't think I could pay that sort of cash for the privileged and it's not a case I cant afford it I just don't sort of see the point, like I do obviously get the attraction.

no no, i meant "birds" as in chicks.... women.... girls.... miley cyrus

Twas a joke...but yes...I would happily introduce young Miley to the Birds.

And the bees.

ye im going for the GT3. managed to get weekend hire pick up on friday arvo 4pm and drop of monday 11am for $1300. soooooooooooooooooooooo much better value then hiring the GTR which i was quoted $1100 for one day.

GT3 has unlimited milage as well but strickly no track use but im happy wih that. cruise up the GOR and hitting some of melbournes best roads for 2 days in the GT3, id take that over the one day hire of GTR any day lol.

I understand that you already own one. The point I was trying to make is that you are looking at options for the best dollar spent per return on advertising and I was illustrating that a cheaper vehicle that is still unique and fully wrapped in advertising top to bottom will draw more attention to your company than any GTR with the minimum amount of sign writing. It seemed like an exercise in personal justification to buy another GTR. Not that I think that is a bad thing, in fact congrats on being able to afford 2 of them. I just dont think it is the best place to put your advertising dollar.

    • Latest round of updates on the car. I purchased and installed a SWS clutch slipper to help with 60ft times and got some second-hand good condition 275/40R17 Hoosier DR2 radials. Test and tune in November showed the tyres were an upgrade over my over 15 year old mickey Thompson's and I got a 1.8 second 60ft and pb et of 11.71 but even then, that run wasn't great due to rain and driver error (the event got called off 10 minutes later fast forward to the weekend just gone 25th of Jan and there was finally a break in the weather to let racing happen. The first run the track was slippery and only managed a 12.1@129 Second run the track was better and got a new pb et and mph: 11.54@131   Lith and I then worked out that I installed the previously mentioned clutch slipper incorrectly and its never been working, and I had just been dumping the clutch the entire time, we also noticed it was on street boost and not race boost. So I lined up for a third run with the car turned up in the first two gears, but the passengers side axle objected to clutch dumps and left the chat which stopped my weekend.   so there will be another attempt in the future once I replace the tyres as they rubbed and are stuffed now. but a low 11 should be on the cards.
    • Ceramic coating and heat shielding, you mean?
    • Turbos don't require pulling the motor apart so that's "easier". I would recommend the Nismo R3 turbos instead if you want to do stock twin turbo. It doesn't make as much power as the 2530s but it's only like ~50 whp off the mark and should have better response (ball bearing CHRA, slightly smaller turbo). A local that went with a Garrett G30 and 6boost manifold recently nearly burned his car to the ground after the hood insulator started melting and and burning so if you go single turbo I recommend doing a lot of research and validation work to make sure you don't do the same.
    • New rear lights, filler panel sprayed, cleaned and back together    before, during, after shots 😍
    • 100% is gyprock, I agree. Slip of the keyboard. Haha! I left my indicator bulbs out to save a bit of weight.
