Chasing an extremely annoying issue with my Series 3 R33 GTR. The car has done thise for a while now to be honest but is starting to get a little worse now.

At speeds exceeding 80kp/h it starts to "shimmy" from time to time like the HICAS is making sterring inputs.

Its really bad with more tyre wear and also on less than an 1/8th tank of fuel. I am toying with the idea of getting a HICAS lock bar with the replacement tie rod ends etc but just wanted to get some opinions before i make a move on anything really. I haven't been able to sight anything visually that is wrong with the bushes or mounts etc that would cause anything to "shift"

Any thoughts or ideas woould be greaty appreciated.

Cheers Marty

If your HICAS is non-functional or has excessive play in the rear steering rack - it can definitely 'shimmy' at high speed - been there, and experienced it myself. I ended up replacing my HICAS rack, though - for pure street use, when it's working right - I kinda like it (removing/locking it would also be illegal without engineering in SA..)

Not something simple such as a wheel im-balance and worn rack-end/tie rod end? But if it's only above the 80kph mark... unsure.gif

For me it was movement in the rack itself. It could probably have been repaired, but it was easier/cheaper to replace the rack.

For the OP, I suspect it's best he take the car to a quality tyre/wheel/suspension workshop. They should be able to sus things out pretty quickly and figure out if it's the HICAS rack, simple worn bushes or what.

Yea i was thinking it was that, i have been sussing out the kit that replaces the whole rack and tie rod ends etc its about $100 more than just a normal lock bar so i think thats worth it. Its been in two suspnsion joints here in Townsville and they say nah mate she is all good lol so i don't really like taking it to "professionals"if i can avoid it
