Hey all.

Looking for music/track suggestions here to go against a videography that’s in the works.

A mate of mine is using my GTS-R as an example/portfolio content and we are trying to think of some good backing music to go with it.

It’s not the “normal” sort of high/super action video so a thrashing metal backing track isn’t appropriate, nor would pop/top40 stuff.

The video/doco is sort more about the car, passion, ownership and so on with some different camera work to what you would normally see.

Anything instrumental, acoustic. Something rock would work quite well too. Even uplifting/light sorta trance perhaps.

Throw some suggestions out people. I’ll post up the video once it’s completed (2 weeks) as he is looking for some feedback and also some other cars to work on.

You need someone uplifting.

Something inspiring.

Something that says, "THIS VIDEO IS f**kING AWESOME"

You need something that's all rise.

My friend.... I give you Bon Jovi.

But srsly, give us an idea of the content. (pics of cars, is it drift vids? drag vids? Panoramic shots of cars where the cameras rotating around it, etc.)

good camera technique!

Yep - that's what i said to him.

He is traditionally a wedding videographer type but is branching out and trying to go for a different feel. He's done mainly old classic/vintage stuff and sorta wants to move up in age/type and get a feel from people in that regard.

So obviously the "norm" with most turbo imports is drags/drift/high speed kinda stuff with the car in action. This is more sorta people that are cars nuts with more about the personal side of it.

Hence music is a bit harder. it's easy to put classic/vintage to a certain genre of music. Imports etc kinda make it a bit trickier.

As a side point I'm trying organise a discount for SAU-Vic should anyone want something like that done for themselves ;)

Hows he shooting it? Is it going to be full colour or black and white in parts? Car driving but slowed down, stationary or just normal driving?

Is there going to be comentary, such as information on the car, or just the car and using the music to put the feeling of what its like to drive something your passionate about?

Maybe post a couple of still shots or even a few little clips up to help people see what sort of things your shooting for and the style.

I like what he's done with the light in the previous film with the camera in the car while the driver opens the garage door too. And the slow motion scroll across the front of the car looks sweet as well.

Have you thought about when your driving the car and a song comes on and you just are in the moment. Just cruising and enjoying the feeling of the car and what its like to drive something that your so passionate about?

If you haven't done the filming yet some things I can think of off the top of my head that would be alright are:

Moby - "Flower" or "Flying Foxes

Or for something up beat and a happy tune, iIly - "It can wait"

Stafford Brothers Vs. Hoxton Whores - "Wherever"

or maybe, Drapht - "Jimmy Recard"

Anyway theres some ideas. Just a bit hard without seeing the clip lol, Anyway good luck guys hope that can help you out. :)

Matt

Don't put an electronic/techas beat to a car video/montage, it's been done a million times before...will just make it look like an amateur YouTube video. And it's too shallow to fully portray passion...agree with something rock or grungy...will try and think of something :)

It's documentary style

It'll be kinda like this which is one he did a few weeks ago:

http://vimeo.com/20471414

So as i said - not super high action or anything like that.

Sorry if i'm going off topic but I spot a R33 GTST at 3.13.

Otherwise, just ignore me and carry on.

    • Everything I found online said never use it because it'll dramatically reduce belt lifespan.  No, but I have seen excessive v-belt tension cause the audible bearing noise from excessive radial load in things like alternators. So don't overdo it. Ideally you set it to manufacturer spec using a proper belt tension guage. I tried the "clicker" type gauges but those cheap things are trash. They read way too low even when you're careful.
    • This is kind of where I've ended up for the most part. It's easier for me, easier for shops that don't have to deal with my weird criteria/picky standards, etc.
    • Will do. Suprised if it's not the starter motor considering it's 30 years old. Will get a volt meter though. Battery is close to new.   Cheers for your help, always appreciated.
    • This almost never happens these days. No. Clean your battery terminals and make sure they are tight. Use sandpaper on a dowel if you have to, to get oxidation off the inside of the terminals, particularly on the -ve. Check the earth cable from battery post to chassis ground and engine ground. Make sure the contact surfaces are clean - including the threads on the bolts that anchor them - because that's where a lot of the contact occurs. Wire wheel on a drill is a good thing for this. Make sure the crimps on those cables are all sound. Assuming none of that causes an improvement: Check the battery voltage after it has been resting for a while. If it's at the lower end of the range, put it on charge for a while, then see if it will crank better.
    • I just checked my belt, it wasn't super loose but I could bend it past 90 degrees a small amount so I tightened it up and for the first time ever my car didn't crank first time, had to crank it again lol. Don't know if that was because I tightened the belt or if it's my starter motor going out (been having slow starts for some time). Coulda also been when I was recording I didn't crank the key properly and it didn't save the recording lol.   Is that a thing if you overtighten a belt it struggles to start?
