Hey guys I'm just wondering if any of you have done this. If so I want your opinion. I was thinking putting a relay on the headlight switch earth lead and attach the magnetizing coil to the on position of the ignition switch. Is this the correct way to go about this or is there a different way

Thanks

Possibly cut the power supply wire and run it from an accessories power source.. So you only have power to the indicator when the ignition is on.. I'm not an auto elec so you'd need to confirm the load is ok if you was to do this..

I'd rig the headlight switching wire into another relay that only switches with ignition power, ie you need ignition on and headlight switch on to run lights, as you don't want lights on all the time with the ignition correct?

I've thought about doing this as I always forget to turn my lights off on overcast days.

I would just do what Craig said and instead of the headlights having a constant 12V source wire it up to an accessories 12V.

Also be aware that in rare cases you may want your headlights on without the engine on...better off making a seperate switch and relay for the headlights altogether...that way you can toggle between auto off/on and manual off/on modes.

yes but if you run the stalk source to the accessories.. that "should" mean that you won't have power to the stalk until accessories (ignition) is on.. but lights shouldnt come on until you activate them from the stalk..

tried to think of this but that would ultimately defeat the purpose of the auto off.. if you can have both auto off and manual on.. how will the car know that you infact want them on if the car is off? Unless you run it on an override switch.. So switch in position one = auto off.. switch in position 2 = manual override..

if you don't understand these try and find an auto elec to do this please.. fiddling with elec and you don't know what you are doing = bad outcomes..

I don't know...I'm not that familiar with electronics themselves, just the semantics and basic maps. Was mimicking the Soarer setup, which goes: Parkers, Low Beam, Auto. Switching between Low Beam and Auto flickers the lights for a split second, so I imagine headlight power is diverted through a different circuit when on auto. Also, auto off occurs when the driver door is opened rather than the key in the ignition...so it must run off the doorlight switch circuit.

Complicated stuff!

i only used my timer for a month then used to put it in top gear last minute or two as i approached destination. but good point phil its been so long id forgotten it doesnt work while on timer
