Hey,

Just a question in regards to VINs/Chassis Numbers. I bought an R34 25GT from Japan and it's just waiting for the next available ship headed to Australia. I organized compliance with a workshop and when they asked me for the Chassis Number in order to apply for a Vehicle Import Approval, I made the mistake of quoting the number in a public place where there's heaps of people around(I was on my break at work). So, if you overheard the number, what could you do with it? Would you be able to do anything that could prevent me from getting the car complied or registered or whatnot? I'm just hoping there were no criminals around me who rebirth vehicles and such, lol. :/

Maybe I'm just over-reacting. Anyway, comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Once your vehicle is registered this information is available online to the public anyway.

VIN swaps or rebirths tend to happen when the swapper owns and has written off the original car, or stolen the number from a written off car at a wreckers (even then you'll have a tough time registering it).

Dood, bad mistake.

Do you know how much it will cost to re-export the car to Japan?

I never talk VIN numbers unless its with friends, and only if there is a cone of silence.

Not to worry...

I'm paranoid myself - but that doesn't mean that there's no-one following me. >_<

Mmm. But aside from all the jokes and such, nobody could really do anything with the chassis number, right? Sorry, I just don't know who is and isn't being serious. :/ lol

We have a thread where VIN numbers are posted so we can run them through Nissan's FAST so vehicle details can be confirmed.. Nothing can be done with them.. Well nothing that you could prevent.. The fact that you think some random car rebirther just happens to be near you and is ready to take the VIN/chassis numers down like it happens everyday is hilarious

Mmm, probably highly unlikely but you never know who is around... lol. Thanks for clearing it up anyway. :D

lol...I laugh at customers who are afraid to read me

credit card numbers over the phone...and then there's you...

Don't worry OP, everything is fine. Crisis averted.
