Hi Guys,

over the next few months i will be installing my competition stereo in the stagea,

its been a while coming.

i still have not got the front speakers, but, hopeflly by the middle of the year ill have the cash to get them.

so this is the list of equipment that will be going into the system.

ill start with the front stage amps and speakers

3x Alpine MRV-F540,

these are running in briged mode, making aprox 200wRMS x2

the speakers are Hybrid Audio Technology Legetia series

ill have 8" Mid Basses in the doors, 4" Mid Ranges on the dash and 1" Tweeters on the A pillars.

Now for the Sub Bass.

2x Alpine MRD-M300,

these are running 4x Alpine Type S Subs.

the Subs i have are Dual 2ohm voice coils which i will parrallel down to 1ohm then series each pair to 2 ohms, geting the maximum potential out of the amps,

300wRMS each.

All this will be controlled by a Alpine PXA-H701 Digital Surround Sound Processor

here is a pic of the back of the car, with the boxes mocked up with cardboard.

i will post here with pics as often as i do stuff to it

it appears wagons are very good at carrying speakers! :-P

going to need to uprate the springs in the rear with all that weight.

should look mad when its finished. what are you thinking in terms of finish on the install? carpet? vinyl?

i also reckon lighting makes or breaks an install - with the cheapness and availability of all sorts of LED's these days, you're spoilt for choice. any ideas?

my only tip would be to keep it so that you can still pull the cargo blind over the top of the install when parked. would hate to see you lose it all - and i know most insurers won't cover stereos!

its a big install!

i think it would look touch if the speakers were reversed. it would also allow you to change the volume of the boxes.

I say a mixture of vinil and carpet. would look insane..

whats the colour theme going to be??

Smokey, i agree that lighting makes or breaks a install. lucky for me i work at a lighting wholesaler hehe :)

Aaron, im going to be tossing up between carpet or paint finish, i think it will look spetacular with the boxes in a piano finish metalic grey/silver that matches the surround around the stereo

the pic only shows my basic plan.. it will evolve once the accual making starts. and the final angles get worked out.

also i still want to be able to use the back so the back 2 (ones closet to the tailgate) will be removable to allow for more space for bags, n stuff.

Looks good so far, gotta love how much room we have to play with. It certainly makes planning a lot easier. A piano-finish would look awesome - makes it more a "part" of the car, rather than a botched, add-on job.

I like a big, sound-quality balanced stereo, but I LOVE stealth! I've been delaying my upgrades mainly due to the cost of the head unit - I'd like to find something that will do music, video, iPod/iPhone integration and hopefully navigation in a single-DIN unit. Then find somewhere to stash an amp or two and a sub, with minimal impact on passenger or boot space.

    • Only needed to pull out the seats, center console and gear shifter surround, took a weekend and a fair few beers. You get to look forward to finding all sorts of weird shit under the seats and carpet, I pulled out a Chinese dudes passport from 2003, 220 yen and a condom wrapper 😆
    • Well, turns out not a lot happened from back then to now, between life again, and working on 3 separate other cars (only one of which was mine, and will now be departing the household soon).   So I decided with the whole "don't go outside, it's a cyclone!" Turning in to being not a whole lot, I ventured down to the garage, found a couple of water leaks in the shed (the main one I've already fixed), and then ended up "stuck" as it started pouring rain, and I didn't want to walk back inside in the pouring rain. This meant I ended up taking a look at the Skyline, and trying to work out what past Matt had been upto. I retraced a few things out from scratch, added the rest of the power feeds in that I needed for the indicators, and headlights. Double checked I'd wired a few things up correctly (and worked out how I wired a few things to begin with), updated my sparse notes. Added one of the ground points. Oh, and got really really dusty, as the car is quite dirty. Wrote up quickly what should be left for me to do with the wiring too. Adding the below photos more for my records than anything else. I need to make myself a proper book for the car that details everything, and how I've done it, but for now, this is my records... The third image is my most important one for me, and I need to draw it out into a proper schematic eventually. The last photo is my re-written list, I'd have put it on the white board, except I had to take the white board down to fix one of the water leaks.
