I don't know how to fix your tune but can you get 200L drums of toluene or methanol and add a few litre to each tank full to up the quality a bit?

Checked out that whole toluene thing a while back and did not seem feasible so i ended up buying a coolingmist wmi kit which is still in the cupboard somewhere along with some greddy cam gears....

Was really waiting until the turbo upgrade to install both but i think i'll give it a shot soon as i feel comfortable with the "base" tune i have now so i can use that to compare to.

I will be using water only first and see how that goes as a lot of ppl locally use it alone with decent results

Isnt that with R34 N1 turbs and higher boost?

The oem ecu has timing @ 24* also, so I have it around there but just alot richer than it would have been normally,....the stock ecu only gets to 11.0afr @ around 7k...well in my experience at least

knk is around 15

Nah...I'm in one of the Caribbean islands and AFAIK its measured similar to yours and not by the US standard

I would like to confirm that 100% but i dont know where to get that sort of info and if it would be reliable to start with....

Thats why i wanted to know the difference you guys see between 95 and 98 to get a comparison

Ha ha....i guess so...or even better as a matter of fact, > a "tuner" has my buddys car @ 37* on 16psi :domokun:

So i take it your 21* is on similar boost like what i run?

37* timing is Alot ! Even on 98 lol

Sure ur not running 110 octane

Well time for a little update......

I have secured all sorts of loose shit under the center console/dash and under the car and tuned the timing around 24* which is what the oem ecu would normally run and i'm not hearing any vibration/rattle again and the values on the pfc is 10-12 max and very low on the safc2 as well and i have that set really sensitive

So i believe that the noise wasnt actually detonation but i have taken out a few degrees here and there so the safc would not show any high values like i was seeing before.....so i guess now its dyno time to compare ign advance to torque gain to see where shes happy

Man....talk about paranoid!!! every fu$king thing sounds like detonation!

Any tricks to listen for knk on the dyno??? With your bare ear i mean.....i just dont have any other devices available to pick up knk

Get a long piece of vacuum hose and pushover the end of and inlet manifold stud, run it back into the car and listen to it. I have made a knock detection setup impromptu @ the track using industrial ear muffs drilled so the vacuum hose pushes inside the ear muffs to block out ambient noise, worked well but would not be good for your hearing long term :)

I saw you request for info a page or so back from march and i apologise for no reply. (havent been on here for months, very busy atm) Feel free to email your map to me i will have a look for you on the quiet. [email protected]

Actually i had the same idea but using a garden hose instead, but had not decieded where to position it on the block.

I see you mount the kmon sensor by the fuel line bracket, do u suggest placing the hose around the same area or maybe closer to no.6 on one of the studs at the back of the plenum?....its in a rwd chassis so i have room to work with

No need to apoligise btw, i know you have to be busy with the new projects i see rolling out  never the less i really appreciate youre time and help and i will email you the stuff a little later when i get some time...busy as well

Thanks a mil

Wowsers. My own GTR runs around 21 max at 11.7

Hmmmm...you didnt mention what boost, but does it mean you guys actually run less timing than the stock ecu therefore de-tuning the car for safety because of your 98 compared to the Japs 100?

honda? e85.

Hahaa rb26 .....but not for much longer i guess!

I run around 20 psi. I never push any cars to the knock threshhold but. So im sure i can run more timing.

My car goes to the circuit a fair bit. I only run on low boost 15psi at the circuit. So the tune is kept a bit safer

    • Absolutely this. Yes, except not vacuum hose. Something oil/fuel safe is a better idea.
    • Like a Stagea, but not as cool! Hope you have enough garage space for this, or is something going to leave to make way for it?
    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
