I have just imported a 1996 R33 GTS25t 5spd Sedan. It had a couple of minor susp mods, R32 GTR seats & wheels and some body bracing and stuff. It was a factory manual too.

My reason for importing was that there was not enough decent manual 4drs in Perth particularly series 2's which is what i wanted.

costs you ask?

I used Ben @ J-Spec. Their fee is usually $1000 for their services. Mine was a little cheaper as it was the 3rd time I have used Ben. This is paid to have Ben start looking. He looked, he found, I liked, I bought!

Car was 440,000FOB which at the time as just over $5200 AUD. I paid this which got the car on a boat, and heading towards Perth.

Just before the car arrived at Fremantle port, I paid all the customs fees and transporting costs etc etc. this was $2742 AUD.

Tomorrow the car will head to the compliance shop. The compliance cost is $2600 AUD.

So far, thats bout $11500.

on top of this is registration, new tyres and vehicle security (immobiliser/alarm).

I envisage it costing me about $13000 on the road.

The car is in great condition. A Grade 4 if you like.

I could have bought a high KM, flogged out version in Perth for $10K, but I am glad I didnt.

That price would be "average" condition I would assume....

As in, not necessarilly good condition but just "what you'd expect" with such an old car...

Mind you... There are other factors to consider... Are these r32 going for 700K at a USS auction house? If so... WHICH auction house is it???

Is it 700K on yahoo Japan???

... Is this 700k at a used car dealer?

Factors like these play a huge difference in the price....

Understand much of the market in Japan is bid based. Unlike here where someone will ask 13k aud for an NA auto r33 gts... And have people call and offer them their weekly nghtfill check...

Japan is mostly bids. So the location, demand, exposure, and popularity.

With something like R32 gtr however, if you're chasing a good one, Its best to contact one of the brokers who use these forums, as they can gain access to special boutique gtr dealers and buying agents,

As well as scour the yahoo Japan auctions, which is mostly where enthusiasts like to market their cars to draw a slower more broad market and avoid the auction house fees.

To them, a car will fetch more worth on yahoo with some nice pics to go with it than it would with 20 seconds of fate in a dingy dank auction bidding room :-p

8oosted that post was aimed for mm89 not you :-)

Would you please be a dear and PM me where your compliance shop is??? I'd like to have a chat :-)

With suspension it will have to be standard, R32 GTR seats & wheels can be done if the workshop is prepared to do the correct paperwork, out of interest who is doing it.

DPI are onto new charcoal canisters and new cats fitted so get the local workshop to pit pass it if they are leaving out things to get the price down.

440,000 FOB is cheap.

Why would the DPI be on to all that? All the car has to be, is legal, when it goes over the pits.

I took my Chaser over the pits with a catback exhaust, 17" wheels & coilovers when it was registered for the first time. This was about 15mths ago.

I understand that for compliance it must be stock to be signed off, but getting it registered, I know it doesn't because my Chaser wasn't.

DPI are onto it and many other things because they have been told what to check by DOTARS, they give briefs when they visit after the pieces of crap coming from over east.

A vehicle is not to be modified from time of compliance till registration, when the car goes over the pits it is to be same as what workshop signed it off at.

People know it doesn't always happen but that is a risk now the workshops are less likely to take just to give some stranger a break on cost's.

  • 1 month later...

I imported a very good condition S2 R33GTST late last year, 110,000kms 5 speed manual. Had just a few mods (exhaust wheels etc.) but I didn't use s broker. I know it was risky (or plain stupid) but what I was really chasing was the experience of importing myself, so I knew first hand what needs to done.

It was great fun, and well worth the wait, and I learnt so much from organizing everything my self (from shipping to quarantine to compliance to transport) and in the end I got the car complied registered fitted with an immobilizer and on road for 10.5k. So yeah, it would have been cheaper to buy locally, but I really enjoyed learning what I did.

Yeah man, importing your own car, liaising with federal and state government and warfings and compliance and towing and dealing with every speedbump on the way while trying to live your regular life so you can save less than 1000 dollars sounds like a real hoot :)

I'd do it

depends if you have done it before. I let a customs agent do mine when I do things out of NZ. the first one I did was done the same way.

    • I did a bit of googling, the color MCM used was Galaxy Grey from House of Kolor. This is actually a colour I picked out about ~10+ years ago (or more). This one is a stock BMW colour, I guess over the years I figured it was smart to get an OEM colour that was pretty common for all of those sensible reasons one can think of..
    • I absolutely love having clean wheels and also totally love cleaning them. Its not as important to me to have a clean car exterior as it is to have clean wheels. So I bought a kit. I generally use different products for my wheels than anything else, so I thought I'd buy a proper kit and bucket to keep it all in. I got this one from Waxit. I also got the CQuartz wheel and plastic ceramic along with a bunch more application micro fibre pads as CQuartz never provide enough.  The kit was good, but as usual the big, long spongey thing didn't fit between my spokes, so I needed to use a detailing brush and a larger brush that I already owned (been doing this forever, the spokes on these wheels are frustrating.) I did a full clean with the wheel cleaner, it has an iron killing product in it, so I found that I could just use the cleaner and nothing else on the wheels. The tyre cleaner and handled brush were awesome. Made cleaning the tyres so easy. Once everything was clean, I decontaminated with isopropyl and applied the ceramic. Two coats. I bought 2 bottles as I have a lot of wheels to do, half of one bottle did two coats on these. The X5 has 20's so I reckon probably 3/4 on that. Then, for possibly the best part, the wheel cleaning kit comes with a tyre black applicator. But, this is possibly the greatest sponge of all time - its a great size, quite stiff and HAS A COVER! When you finish applying the black, you just put the cover back on! This is revolutionary, I normally have to try and find safe places to put my tyre black applicators as they are covered in silicone and tyre crap. Or, you use something which just falls apart. This applicator is the bee's knee's. Get one. It's worth it. The tyre black is also like a cream, its very thick but goes on really thin, its very easy to use with the applicator. Ayway, after a big clean, decontam, ceramic coat and tyre black the wheels went back on and they look awesome.   Thought I'd share.
    • Haha. Good work. I feel some of your pain because I spent a bunch of time under my car over the period too. Probably nowhere near as much as you did. My happiness is similarly improved by obtaining a desired result though. Those side skirts are.....hecking. Very unfriendly for street and hoist. Sounds to me like you've made a cart that needs to be driven up only planks/blocks at a 2 post hoist, rather than trying to get it up onto a 4 poster. It's very pretty, by the way. Somewhat reminiscent of Marty's squid ink on SuperGramps - at least in the photos.

    • ATTAKD 356mm Brake Kit for R34 GTT or R33 GTST. Same brake kit as per here from JJ: https://justjap.com/products/attkd-brake-kit-nissan-skyline-r34-99-02?currency=AUD Can confirm these will bolt directly to a R33 GTST with 12mm bolts OR to a R34 GTT (which is what I had) with the supplied bolts and the collets for the 14mm bolt holes in the R34, which are included. Also included is a set of rotors and hats, as well as 2x brake pad sets. 1) DBA XP (street, hills) 2) Forza FR6 (track) These are radial mounted and bolt directly to R33/R34. You will need extended brake lines to avoid them being full stretch on lock - this is common for all BBK's with the bolt point being in the center. In my case I welded another stud about 25mm lower than the OEM one and retained stock lines and fittings. You'll want a BM57 BMC to get the most out of these. I speak from experience. $1800 (neg for SAU people), located SE Suburbs Melbourne.
